About the Lab

Professor Jinyoung Song's research lab specializes in pediatric and congenital cardiovascular diseases, with a focus on hemodynamic and organ dysfunction in patients with complex congenital heart disease. The lab investigates the pathophysiology and long-term outcomes of conditions such as hepatopulmonary syndrome, single ventricle physiology, and post-Fontan hepatic dysfunction. Research spans interstage mortality, necrotizing enterocolitis in duct-dependent lesions, and the safety and efficacy of transcatheter and surgical interventions for ventricular septal defects. The lab emphasizes multimodal imaging and diagnostic tools to monitor and improve outcomes in pediatric cardiac patients.

SJR Q1PEDIATRICS

It is well known that arterial hypoxia can occur with chronic liver disease in adults as well as children.1-3 The clinical syndrome of hypoxia in association with liver disease has been called hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) or intrapulmonary vasodilative disease.3,4 In its classic form, HPS is a triad of abnormal arterial oxygenation, hepatic dysfunction, and pulmonary vascular dilation. The primary underlying disease of the hepatobiliary system is mainly liver cirrhosis or other chronic liver d

Interstage mortality for functional single ventricle with heterotaxy syndrome: a retrospective study of the clinical experience of a single tertiary center
Jinyoung Song, I‐Seok Kang, June Huh, Ok Jeong Lee, Geena Kim, Tae-Gook Jun, Ji‐Hyuk Yang
SJR Q2Journal of Cardiothoracic SurgeryOA

BACKGROUND: In spite of improved survival after palliation for single ventricle, interstage mortality for a single ventricle with heterotaxy syndrome is unknown. The purpose of this study was to quantify interstage mortality and influence mortality risk factors. METHODS: From November 1994 until February 2012, all patients that had a functional single ventricle and heterotaxy syndrome who underwent palliative operations at our center were included. Patients with hypoplastic left heart syndrome a

SJR Q2BMC PediatricsOA

BACKGROUND: Although many studies have described an increased risk of necrotizing enterocolitis in duct dependent congenital heart diseases, very few have investigated its occurrence in full-term infants with duct dependent congenital heart diseases. METHODS: therapy from April 2000 to May 2020. RESULTS: Necrotizing enterocolitis was observed in 10 patients (3.0%). Their average gestational age and birth weight were 38.2 weeks and 2783.5 g, respectively. The median age at diagnosis was 8.0 days

Percutaneous Transcatheter Closure of Congenital Ventricular Septal Defects
Jinyoung Song
SJR Q2Korean Circulation JournalOA

Ventricular septal defects (VSDs) are the most common kind of congenital heart disease and, if indicated, surgical closure has been accepted as a gold-standard treatment. However, as less-invasive methods are preferred, percutaneous device closure has been developed. After the first VSD closure was performed percutaneously by Lock in 1988, both techniques and devices have developed consistently. A perventricular approach for closure of muscular VSD in small patients and the closure of perimembra

Imaging Assessment of Hepatic Changes after Fontan Surgery
Jinyoung Song, Kyung‐Hee Kim, June Huh, I‐Seok Kang, Sung Hoon Kim, Ji‐Hyuk Yang, Tae-Gook Jun, Ji Hye Kim
SJR Q3International Heart JournalOA

The aim of this study was to evaluate hepatic dysfunction over 10 years following Fontan surgery. We assessed the clinical usefulness of diagnostic tools for the detection and follow-up of hepatic dysfunction in patients with Fontan circulation.A total of 26 post-Fontan patients (median age 13 years, range 10-35 years; median duration from Fontan procedure 10.5 years, range 4-17 years) were enrolled in this study. Hepatic assessment was performed by ultrasonography, computed tomography (CT), and

SJR Q2ChildrenOA

Background: In the present study, the population prevalence and postoperative morbidity and mortality in Down syndrome patients who underwent total correction for congenital heart disease were investigated using data from a large national cohort. Methods: Retrospective administrative data from 2,395,966 participants born between 2008 and 2012 were acquired from the National Investigation of Birth Cohort in Korea. Among Down syndrome patients, 58.3% had congenital heart disease and 32.3% underwen

Introduction The long-term effects of fenestration in patients with Fontan circulation remain unclear. We aim to evaluate the fenestration impact on early and late outcomes in patients with extracardiac Fontan (ECF) using a propensity score matching analysis. Methods We performed an extensive retrospective multicenter clinical data review of the Korean Fontan registry and included 1,233 patients with surgical ECF (779 fenestrated, 454 non-fenestrated). Demographics, baseline, and follow-up data

With the development of IoT technology, the use of IoT terminals connected with smart phones is increasing. At the same time, security incidents are occurring. IoT security incidents can be linked to risk at both a personal and national level through social disruption and cyberterrorism. In this study, we analyze the security infringement environment in an IoT smart watch device. We extract forensic evidence from the watch, using a hashing function to verify data integrity, and create a forensic
