About the Lab

Professor Jiwoong Lee's research lab specializes in energy harvesting and power management systems for wireless sensor networks, with a strong focus on sustainable and efficient power solutions for ubiquitous and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The lab develops advanced power management integrated circuits (PMICs) that optimize energy extraction from renewable sources such as dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), particularly under low and variable light conditions. Key research directions include maximum power point tracking (MPPT) techniques, low-power charge pump architectures, and ultra-low dropout regulators for intermittent operation. The lab also emphasizes system-level integration using advanced CMOS processes to enable compact, energy-autonomous sensor nodes.

JOURNAL OF SEMICONDUCTOR TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENCE

This paper presents a power managementsystem of the dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) forubiquitous sensor network (USN) applications. Thecharge pump with a luminance-controlled oscillatorregulates the load impedance of the DSSC to track themaximum power point (MPP) under various lightintensities. The low drop-out regulator with ahysteresis comparator supplies intermittent powerpulses that are wide enough for USN to communicatewith a host transponder even under dim lightconditions.
