About the Lab
Professor Jong-Tae Park's research lab specializes in biomedical and dental sciences, with a primary focus on dental development, enamel formation, and the molecular mechanisms underlying amelogenesis. The lab investigates key proteins such as ODAM and APin in tooth mineralization, exploring their roles in regulating matrix metalloproteinases and extracellular matrix dynamics. Additionally, the lab conducts epidemiological and clinical studies on public health issues, including alcohol consumption patterns and occupational exposure to formaldehyde, linking environmental factors to cancer risk. The integration of molecular biology, histology, and population health research defines the lab’s multidisciplinary approach.

15Until a century ago, Korean medicine was based mainly on Oriental philosophies and ideas. From a religious perspective, Chinese Confucianism was prevalent in Korea at that time. Since Confucianists believe that it is against one's filial duty to harm his or her body, given to them by their parents, most Koreans did not donate their bodies or organs for education in the past. However, by the end of the 20th century, a unique fusion of Western and Oriental medicines were produced on the Korean Pen
We have previously reported that the odontogenic ameloblast-associated protein (ODAM) plays important roles in enamel mineralization through the regulation of matrix metalloproteinase-20 (MMP-20). However, the precise function of ODAM in MMP-20 regulation remains largely unknown. The aim of the present study was to uncover the molecular mechanisms responsible for MMP-20 regulation. The subcellular localization of ODAM varies in a stage-specific fashion during ameloblast differentiation. During t
BACKGROUND: Formaldehyde exposure is associated with nasopharyngeal cancer and leukemia. Previously-described links between formaldehyde exposure and lung cancer have been weak and inconsistent. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate quantitatively the association between formaldehyde exposure and lung cancer. METHODS: We searched for articles on occupational formaldehyde exposure and lung cancer in PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and CINAHL databases. In total, 32 articl
This study investigated the expression and localization of APin (which was previously identified and cloned from a rat odontoblast cDNA library), during ameloblast differentiation in rat incisors, by using in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry. The subcellular localization of APin varied during ameloblast differentiation, but was stage-specific. APin mRNA was not expressed in pre-ameloblasts, was weakly expressed in secretory ameloblasts, and was strongly expressed in maturation-stage a
Sihler's staining allows visualization of the nerve distribution within soft tissues without extensive dissection and does not require slide preparation, unlike traditional approaches. This technique can be applied to the mucosa, muscle, and organs that contain myelinated nerve fibers. In particular, Sihler's technique may be considered the best tool for observing nerve distribution within skeletal muscles. The intramuscular distribution pattern of nerves is difficult to observe through manual m
We evaluated alcohol consumption and alcohol-related problems in Korean adults by evaluating alcohol consumption and responses to the CAGE questionnaire obtained from the second Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The age-adjusted prevalence of males who consumed 0, 0.1-20, 20.1-40, or >40 g/day of alcohol were 28.0, 51.5, 12.5, and 8.0%, respectively; 26.9% of male drinkers were CAGE-positive (> or =2 affirmative responses to the CAGE). The age-adjusted prevalence of females
The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among Korean wage workers was very high and was found to correlate significantly with working conditions, likely because of insufficient exposure to sunlight associated with certain types of work. Wage workers require more frequent outdoor activity and nutrition management to maintain sufficient vitamin D level.
Intranets are composed of a network of various devices, systems, and services supporting a wide variety of applications within an organization. Providing a secure, reliable, and efficient operating environment to support the organization's daily activities and its business is the most challenging task faced by operations and management staff today. Current management practices typically involve the use of separate, incompatible tools and techniques for managing networks, systems, and application

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the prognostic implication of cancer stem cell markers in pancreac ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), the expression of CD133 and nestin were investigated in a series of PDAC patients in relation to the survival rate. METHODS: This series included 42 cases of PDAC patients and evaluated the stem cell markers CD133 and nestin expression detected by immunohistochemistry. The presence of immunopositive tumor cells considering intensity and area was evaluated and interpreted in co
Osteoporosis is an aging-associated disease requiring better therapeutic modality. Eupatilin is a major flavonoid from Artemisia plants such as Artemisia princeps and Artemisia argyi which has been reported to possess various beneficial biological effects including anti-inflammation, anti-tumor, anti-cancer, anti-allergy, and anti-oxidation activity. Complete blockade of RANK-dependent osteoclastogenesis was accomplished upon stimulation prior to the receptor activator of nu
Homeostatic bone remodeling is vital to maintain healthy bone tissue. Although the receptor activator of nuclear factor κB ligand (RANKL)/RANK axis is considered the master regulator of osteoclastogenesis, the underlying mechanisms including cell fusion remain incompletely defined. Here, we introduce a new axis in the formation of multinucleated cells via RANK signaling: the progranulin (PGRN)/PIRO (PGRN-induced receptor-like gene during osteoclastogenesis) axis. When mouse bone marrow-derived m
