About the Lab

Professor Joo-hwan Kang's research focuses on heavy-ion and high-energy particle physics, with a strong emphasis on understanding the properties of the quark-gluon plasma formed in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. His work spans measurements of anisotropic flow, jet quenching, and charmonium production in proton-proton, proton-lead, and lead-lead collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider and the RHIC. He also contributes to precision studies of CP violation in B-meson decays using data from the Belle experiment. His research integrates advanced analysis techniques in heavy-ion phenomenology and flavor physics to probe quantum chromodynamics under extreme conditions.

Angular correlations between charged trigger and associated particles are measured by the ALICE detector in p-Pb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV for transverse momentum ranges within 0.5 < p T,assoc < p T,trig < 4 GeV/c. The correlations are measured over two units of pseudorapidity and full azimuthal angle in different intervals of event multiplicity, and expressed as associated yield per trigger particle. Two long-range ridge-like structures, one on the near s

The PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider has measured the invariant differential cross section for production of ${K}_{S}^{0}$, $\ensuremath{\omega}$, ${\ensuremath{\eta}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$, and $\ensuremath{\phi}$ mesons in $p+p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}$. Measurements of $\ensuremath{\omega}$ and $\ensuremath{\phi}$ production in different decay channels give consistent results. New results for the $\ensuremath{\omega}$ are in agreement with p

We report the first results of elliptic (v_{2}), triangular (v_{3}), and quadrangular (v_{4}) flow of charged particles in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The measurements are performed in the central pseudorapidity region |η|<0.8 and for the transverse momentum range 0.2<p_{T}<5 GeV/c. The anisotropic flow is measured using two-particle correlations with a pseudorapidity gap greater

Azimuthal angle ($\ensuremath{\Delta}\ensuremath{\phi}$) correlations are presented for charged hadrons from dijets for $0.4<{p}_{T}<10$ GeV/$c$ in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{{s}_{\mathrm{NN}}}=200$ GeV. With increasing ${p}_{T}$, the away-side distribution evolves from a broad and relatively flat shape to a concave shape, then to a convex shape. Comparisons to $p+p$ data suggest that the away-side can be divided into a partially suppressed ``head'' region centered at $\ensuremath{\Delta}\

We report the observation of the radiative decay B+-->K1(1270)(+) gamma using a data sample of 140 fb(-1) taken at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. We find the branching fraction to be B(B+-->K1(1270)(+)gamma)=(4.3+/-0.9(stat.)+/-0.9(syst.))x10(-5) with a significance of 7.3sigma. We find no significant signal for B+-->K1(1400)(+)gamma and set an upper limit B(B+-->K1(1400)(+)gamma)<1.5 x 10(-5) at the 90% confidence level. We also measure inclusive br

A bstract We present measurements of Underlying Event observables in pp collisions at $ \sqrt {s} = 0.9 $ and 7TeV. The analysis is performed as a function of the highest charged-particle transverse momentum p T,LT in the event. Different regions are defined with respect to the azimuthal direction of the leading (highest transverse momentum) track: Toward, Transverse and Away. The Toward and Away regions collect the fragmentation products of the hardest partonic interaction. The Transverse regio

The J/$\\psi$ mesons are reconstructed at mid-rapidity ($|y| < 0.9$) in the dielectron decay channel and at forward rapidity ($2.5<y<4.0$) in the dimuon channel, both down to zero transverse momentum. At forward rapidity, the elliptic flow $v_2$ of the J/$\\psi$ is studied as a function of transverse momentum and centrality. A positiv
