Professor Jun-Sung Son's research lab specializes in antimicrobial resistance, with a focus on the epidemiology, molecular characterization, and clinical impact of multidrug-resistant bacterial pathogens in Asian populations. A total of 685 clinical Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates from patients with pneumococcal diseases were collected from 14 centers in 11 Asian countries from January 2000 to June 2001. Fungal otomastoiditis is a rare disease, but can be fatal for immunocompromised patients. Recently, there have been increasing cases of otologic infection caused by Candida auris. Candida auris can be easily misdiagnosed for other species and treatment is difficult due to multidrug resistance.
