Fluctuating Current Control Method for a PMSM Along Constant Torque Contours
Junwoo Kim, Ilsu Jeong, Kilho Lee, Kwanghee Nam
SJR Q1IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics

The dc-link voltage fluctuation problem is more serious for an inverter system which utilizes a single phase ac source. As an effort to reduce the dc-link capacitance, there is a tendency to make torque oscillate in synchronism with the input power. Then, the fluctuating motor power matches the converter power. The key idea is to enforce current oscillation along a constant torque line which only affects the reactive power of the motor. In other words, the proposed method uses the motor as induc

Torque control for IPMSM in the high speed range based on voltage angle
Heekwang Lee, Junwoo Kim, Jinseok Hong, Kwanghee Nam

In a motor control, a voltage saturation is a serious problem as a motor speed increases. To solve the problem, various field weakening methods were studied for a long time. The field weakening methods with PI current controllers are normally used, however the voltage angle control without PI current controllers is receiving attention because of its simple implementation. In this work, the field weakening method is proposed based on the voltage angle control. A inner d-axis current loop is added

Human Recognition Performance of Simple Spatial Vibrotactile Patterns on the Torso
Junwoo Kim, Heeyeon Kim, Chaeyong Park, Seungmoon Choi

This paper presents an experimental study on the fundamental human recognition performance of spatial tactile patterns applied on the torso. The patterns are made by either activating or deactivating four vibration actuators fastened to the body surface in a rectangular shape. Three body areas are considered for stimulation: the torso’s front (chest and stomach), back, and waist. A perceptual experiment shows that the human recognition accuracy of the spatial tactile patterns is high on the tors

Speed ripple reduction of PMSM with eccentric load using sinusoidal compensation method
Junwoo Kim, Kwanghee Nam

In the drum washing machines, surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors (SPMSMs) of outer rotor type are utilized. Since the laundry mass causes an eccentric load to the motor, machine vibration and noise take place during dehydration process along with a speed ripple. The eccentric load is sinusoidal, so that it can be compensated with a sinusoidal q axis current with proper amplitude and phase shift. In this work, a searching algorithm that yields the minimum speed ripple was studied

Telemetry-Based Haptic Rendering for Racing Game Experience Improvement
Jiwan Lee, Junwoo Kim, Jeonggoo Kang, Eunsoo Jo, Dong Chul Park, Seungmoon Choi
SJR Q2IEEE Transactions on Haptics

Many recent games, such as racing and flight games, open their game telemetry data to users by storing them in the local memory. Such telemetry data can provide useful information for haptic rendering, and this advantage has been exploited by the industry. This approach applies to any applications that export telemetry data in run time. The haptic rendering module operates as a separate process that accesses the telemetry data in parallel with the application. It is simple, efficient, and modula

Information Transfer of Full-Body Vibrotactile Stimuli: An Initial Study with One to Three Sequential Vibrations
Jaejun Park, Junwoo Kim, Sangyoon Han, Chaeyong Park, Junseok Park, Seungmoon Choi

Full-body vibrotactile stimuli are a promising means by which haptic interaction designers can substantially increase information transfer (IT). This paper reports the IT values of full-body sequential vibrotactile stimuli applied to ten body sites. We designed 10, 100, and 1,000 stimuli by increasing the number of vibrations in a sequence from one to three and estimated IT for each condition. We also obtained the lower and upper bounds of the IT estimates using several empirical methods to comp

Sensorless control of PMSM in a ultra high speed region taking iron loss into account
Junwoo Kim, Ilsu Jeong, Kwanghee Nam, Jaesik Yang, Taewon Hwang

The importance of ultra high speed (≥ 50 krpm) motor technology has surfaced for various applications including turbo-compounding system, engines, and air blowers. However, there are challenging issues in a high speed motor technology: 1) robust mechanical structure, 2) materials like low loss silicon steel and high tensile strength, and 3) control issues such as the PWM delay, the PWM distortion, and the iron loss. Especially, the iron loss is usually neglected in the general permanent magnet s

SJR Q4The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences

This paper presents the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) estimation based on A-Preamble of IEEE 802.16m IMT-Advanced WiMax system with simulation results. The downlink signal of IEEE 802.16m has two kinds of A-Preambles: the PA-Preamble and the SA-Preamble. This paper proposes the effective method of estimating SNR and SINR with A-Preambles, and also shows that this method can recognize the ICI(Inter-Carrier-Interference) occurrence due to doppler fr
