About the Lab
Professor Jung Hwan Shin's research lab focuses on the neurobiological mechanisms underlying movement disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, and reward-based learning, with a particular emphasis on the basal ganglia circuitry and neuroimaging biomarkers. The lab investigates striatal neural dynamics in health and disease using advanced techniques such as in vivo electrophysiology in mouse models and positron emission tomography (PET) in human patients. Key research directions include understanding the pathophysiology of conditions like vestibular migraine, idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder (iRBD), and synucleinopathies through metabolic and molecular imaging, as well as exploring the role of dopamine transporter changes and protein propagation in disease progression. The lab also contributes to the development of disease-modifying immunotherapies targeting extracellular α-synuclein and tau.
