About the Lab

Professor Kang-Ji Ko's research lab focuses on the pathophysiology of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and acute kidney injury (AKI), with particular emphasis on the roles of dietary factors, immune responses, and molecular mechanisms such as PPARgamma signaling in disease progression. The lab investigates how high-protein diets and macrophage-mediated inflammation contribute to renal fibrosis and dysfunction, and explores potential therapeutic targets to prevent or slow CKD development. Their work integrates preclinical models, molecular biology, and clinical data to understand the transition from acute to chronic kidney injury and to develop personalized dietary and pharmacological interventions.

We retrospectively evaluated the characteristics of adult patients admitted with thyrotoxic hypokalaemic periodic paralysis in Hong Kong.
