About the Lab

Professor Kangmo Ahn's research lab focuses on the environmental and immunological factors that influence atopic dermatitis (AD) and other allergic diseases. The lab investigates the impact of air pollutants—particularly PM2.5—on skin barrier function and filaggrin degradation, as well as the role of indoor air quality in exacerbating AD symptoms in children. It also explores novel allergens in common foods like pistachios and examines host-microbe interactions, such as how *S. aureus* disrupts skin lipid metabolism through pro-inflammatory cytokines. The lab integrates clinical, molecular, and epidemiological approaches to understand the pathogenesis of allergic diseases in real-world environments.
