About the Lab
Professor Keun Yong Eom's research lab focuses on translational oncology, particularly in breast and gynecologic cancers, with an emphasis on identifying molecular prognostic markers and improving treatment outcomes. The lab investigates key signaling pathways such as MAPK and PI3K/AKT in invasive breast cancer, explores biomarkers like PTEN, CA9, and CA12 for lymph node metastasis, and evaluates novel radiotherapy strategies including SABR and chemoradiotherapy. A strong focus is placed on clinical applications, including breast-conserving therapy outcomes and the impact of surgical techniques on patient prognosis.

15INTRODUCTION: Evaluating the expression of signaling molecule proteins from the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway and the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K) pathway in invasive breast cancers may identify prognostic marker(s) associated with early relapse. METHODS: Immunohistochemical analyses of phosphatase and tensin homologue deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN), PI3K-p110alpha, phospho-AKT, phospho-p70S6 kinase, phospho-S6 ribosomal protein, phospho-RAF, phospho-p44/42 MAPK, and h
Nineteen topics were selected as major clinical research advances in gynecologic oncology in 2018. For cervical cancer, the importance of human papillomavirus (HPV) testing alone as primary cervical cancer screening method and negative survival impact of minimally invasive surgery in early-stage cervical cancer were addressed. For ovarian cancer, cost-effectiveness of genetic testing to prevent cancer, use of analgesics and oral pill to reduce cancer risk, efficacy of secondary cytoreductive sur
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate objective cosmetic outcomes and factors related to breast-conserving therapy (BCT) using the BCCT.core software. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty-one patients who received BCT with informed consent were evaluated using the BCCT.core software. Patients were divided into two groups based on the BCCT score: excellent or good (n=42) vs. fair or poor (n=9). Analysis of clinical factors was performed to determine factors affecting cosmetic outcomes. RESULT
PP2 enhances radiosensitivity of malignant glioma cells and suppresses invasion and migration of U251 cells. Chemoradiotherapy with PP2 and TMZ resulted in non-significant tumor volume decrease.
Abstract Background The purpose of this study was to analyze the treatment efficacy and safety of stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy (SABR) boost for cervical cancer patients not amenable to brachytherapy. Methods A retrospective review of the medical records from single institution of 25 eligible patients was performed. The patients underwent pelvic radiotherapy (RT) in 25 or 28 fractions with a median dose of 45 Gy (range 44–50.4 Gy). SABR boost was delivered after pelvic RT, with a media
PURPOSE: The aim of study was to test by immunohistochemical (IHC) staining whether carbonic anhydrase (CA) 9 and 12 have an effect on sentinel lymph node (SLN) metastasis in early breast cancer and to find clinicopathologic factors associated with SLN metastasis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between June 2003 and June 2011, medical records of 470 patients diagnosed with breast cancer with pT1-2, pN0-2, and M0 were reviewed. Of these 470, 314 patients who underwent SLN biopsy±axillary dissection were
PURPOSE: We investigated whether serum cytokines including Interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) are increased during pelvic chemoradiotherapy (CRT) in patients with gynecologic malignancies, and sought to identify prognostic factors for the development of diarrhea during pelvic CRT. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with cervical or endometrial cancer receiving postoperative pelvic CRT were eligible for this prospective study. Patients were evaluated weekly during CRT f
PURPOSE: We evaluated treatment outcomes of thymic carcinomas to determine prognostic factors for survival. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between May 1988 and May 2009, 41 patients had pathologic diagnosis of thymic carcinoma in Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul, Korea. Of these, 40 patients were followed up to 188 months after treatment. The mean age of all patients was 58.3 years and male to female ratio was 23 to 17. RESULTS: Among 30 patients who underwent surgical resection, 26 achieved R0
