About the Lab
Professor Kihoon Kim's research lab specializes in diagnostic and musculoskeletal ultrasound, with a focus on peripheral nerve anatomy, pathology, and neuromuscular disorders. The lab investigates the ultrasonographic visualization and clinical implications of sensory and motor nerves, particularly the ulnar nerve and its branches, in conditions such as nerve entrapment, instability, and compression. Key research directions include nerve morphology, dynamic nerve changes during joint motion, and the use of ultrasound guidance for accurate nerve assessment and interventions. The lab also explores the role of imaging in diagnosing subtle nerve lesions that may be missed by conventional MRI.

15OBJECTIVE: To investigate the anatomic relationship between the superficial radial nerve (SRN) and the cephalic vein (CV) through ultrasonography due to the possibility of SRN injury during cephalic venipuncture. METHODS: Both forearms of 51 healthy volunteers with no history of trauma or surgery were examined in proximal to distal direction using ultrasonography. We measured the distance between the radial styloid process (RSP) and the point where the SRN begins contact with the CV, and measure
Ulnar nerve instability increased with elbow flexion and correlated with snapping of the triceps medial head. Ultrasonography of the ulnar nerve is an important tool in ulnar nerve instability assessment.
INTRODUCTION: We sought to establish the optimal recording position for antidromic conduction of the superficial peroneal nerve (SPN) by using ultrasonography (USG). METHODS: The sensory nerve action potentials (SNAPs) of the intermediate dorsal cutaneous nerve (IDCN) and medial dorsal cutaneous nerve (MDCN) in 64 limbs of 32 healthy participants were recorded (nerve conduction study [NCS]-1). Both nerves were identified by using USG, and the SNAPs were obtained from the USG-guided repositioned
ABSTRACT Introduction We identify sensory branches of the ulnar nerve—palmar ulnar cutaneous nerve (PUCN), dorsal ulnar cutaneous nerve (DUCN), and superficial sensory branch—using ultrasonography. Methods In 60 forearms of 30 healthy adult volunteers, the origin and size of the PUCN, DUCN, and superficial sensory branch were measured by ultrasonography. The relative pathway of the DUCN to the ulnar styloid process was also investigated. Results The PUCN was observed in 47 forearms (78%), and th
Entrapment of the LCSN can arise from tight shoes. US is useful for evaluating the cutaneous nerve lesions that may be too small to detect by MRI. Muscle Nerve 54: 801-804, 2016.
Additional slips of the triceps brachii have been reported in cadaver studies. We report the case of a 48-year-old man with no history of trauma who presented with a tingling sensation and weakness in his right hand. Electromyography revealed ulnar neuropathy around the elbow, with decreased conduction proximal to the medial epicondyle. On ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging, the ulnar nerve was found to be mildly swollen and covered by an additional slip of the triceps brachii muscle
BACKGROUND: Safe and accurate needle access to the rhomboid major (RM) during electromyography is challenging due to the overlying trapezius muscle and the risk of pneumothorax. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the RM anatomy associated with the trapezius using ultrasonography and to determine a safe and accurate needle insertion point for needle electromyography of the RM. DESIGN: Descriptive study. SETTING: Department of physical medicine and rehabilitation of a tertiary clinic center. PARTICIPANTS:

BACKGROUND: Various active recording electrode positions for the trapezius motor nerve conduction study have been suggested. OBJECTIVE: To determine the optimal recording site of the trapezius muscles in a spinal accessory nerve conduction study. DESIGN: Retrospective descriptive study. SETTING: Department of physical medicine and rehabilitation in a tertiary clinic center. PARTICIPANTS: Thirty-four patients between 33 and 82 years of age with preoperative head and neck cancer (68 upper and midd
OBJECTIVE: To identify the optimal distal stimulation point for conventional deep peroneal motor nerve (DPN) conduction studies by a cadaveric dissection study. METHOD: DPN was examined in 30 ankles from 20 cadavers. The distance from the DPN to the tibialis anterior (TA) tendon was estimated at a point 8 cm proximal to the extensor digitorum brevis (EDB) muscle. Relationships between the DPN and tendons including TA, extensor hallucis longus (EHL), and extensor digitorum longus (EDL) tendons we
OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to identify the optimal needle placement for electromyographic examination of the biceps femoris short head muscle in relation to the biceps femoris long head tendon through sonographic evaluation. DESIGN: This cross-sectional observational study involved 36 lower limbs of 18 healthy volunteers. The distances and angles indicating the relationships between the common fibular nerve and the medial or lateral border of the biceps femoris long head tendon were mea
Several developed countries have recently provided electric vehicle consumers and producers with financialsubsidies. There has been some empirical research on the impact of government subsidies on the consumers’ purchaseof electric cars. However, little analytical research on the government subsidies for the electric car market exists. This research analyzes the impact of the government financial subsidies on the electric car price and technology levelas well as the consumers’ adoption of electr
