About the Lab
Professor Ki-Hyun Kim's research lab specializes in environmental sustainability, focusing on the impacts of contaminants—such as heavy metals and micro/nanoplastics—on food security and human health. The lab investigates the environmental fate and transport mechanisms of toxic substances in soil-crop systems and aquatic environments, with particular attention to adsorption processes involving particulate plastics and trace elements. A key research direction involves developing biorefinery technologies to convert food waste into high-value bioproducts, such as biodegradable polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), promoting circular economy solutions.
