About the Lab
Professor Kim, Yosep's research lab specializes in materials science and nuclear engineering, focusing on the corrosion behavior and degradation mechanisms of zirconium-based alloys in nuclear reactor environments. The lab investigates in-reactor oxidation, hydride effects, and microstructural evolution in fuel cladding materials such as Zircaloy-4 and Zr-2.5Nb under irradiation and high-temperature conditions. Additionally, the lab explores the application of big data analytics and advanced data processing techniques to enhance cybersecurity and information system management, particularly in monitoring and analyzing large-scale security logs to prevent insider threats.

9Uniform in-reactor corrosion has been examined on pressurized water reactor (PWR) Zircaloy-4 fuel claddings that were irradiated up to four cycles in the KORI Unit 1. The oxide layer that was formed on the Zircaloy-4 fuel claddings changes from a uniform black oxide into the nonuniform white granular oxides when the oxide layer reaches about 5 to 10 μm. With irradiation exposure, enough of the white granular oxides have nucleated above the black oxide layer to entirely cover the fuel cladding, r
The cause of the accelerated corrosion of zirconium alloys by hydrides is studied by investigating the corrosion of three section planes of Zr-2.5Nb tubes with different texture: the longitudinal normal section (LS) plane, the transverse normal section (TS) plane, and the radial normal section (RS) plane. Corrosion tests were conducted on those section planes taken from the unhydrided and prehydrided Zr-2.5Nb tubes with up to 450 ppm H in water at 350°C or in steam at 400°C. For Zr-2.5Nb tube wi
This study examines a salient intrasyllabic phonological unit in Korean, the body-coda unit, its role in literacy skills in Korean, and a possible source of the salience of body-coda units in the spoken language. Data were collected from Korean-speaking, monolingual beginning readers (41 kindergarteners, 40 first graders). The results indicate that body-coda boundary (e.g., ca-t) is more salient than onset–rime boundary (e.g., c-at) for Korean children and show that children's body-coda awarenes
