Retinoblastoma patients pass through multiple windows of susceptibility to specific SPTs. This information will aid health care providers in monitoring this high-risk group, and it provides new insights for studying the underlying genetic predisposition to SPTs.
BACKGROUND: The study aimed to evaluate vision-related quality of life (QOL) in epiphora (excessive tear production) patients. Transient immune dysfunction may provoke the cytokine-mediated proliferation of pathologic Langerhans cells within the hematopoietic marrow of the anterolateral frontal bone. These cells cause osteolysis through elaboration of interleukin-1 and prostaglandin E2. Corticosteroids can inhibit the mediators. Given the rarity of lacrimal gland carcinoma, multi-institutional studies and consistent reporting of size and histologic type of tumors in the literature may be prudent. Particularly, multimodality globe-sparing treatment strategies should be studied further.
The findings indicate that solitary fibrous tumor can occur in the lacrimal sac and may recur locally if it is removed incompletely. To our knowledge, these are the first reported cases of solitary fibrous tumors occurring in the lacrimal sac.

Dacryocystocele is a rare complication of chronic dacryocystitis. We report four such cases in which epiphora and painless cystic mass located inferior to the medical canthus were manifested. Subperiosteal hematoma of the orbit is a rare but well-recognized entity, usually caused by trauma. Two cases of subperiosteal hematoma associated with sinusitis are presented. A 44-year-old woman experienced the sudden onset of proptosis, and decreased visual acuity. PURPOSE: To describe the clinical outcomes of eye-preserving surgery followed by adjuvant radiotherapy in patients with lacrimal gland carcinoma. METHODS: Thirty-seven patients with lacrimal gland carcinoma who underwent eye-preserving surgery were studied. Although epiblepharon may resolve with facial growth, surgical correction is needed for cases in which there is significant corneal injury from the lash touch. Surgical management should focus on techniques that are effective, with little chance of complication, and do not create a lower eyelid crease.
The lower prevalence of thyroid eye disease in dysthyroid Korean patients and the influence of gender on risk factors in this study are novel findings compared to studies performed involving Europeans. Although the risk factors for thyroid eye disease are understood in part, a more in-depth comparative study of gender and ethnic groups is needed to fully understand the biological significance of the demographic factors.
