About the Lab
Professor Kyung Mi Lee's research lab focuses on health promotion, physical activity, and behavioral interventions across diverse populations, with a strong emphasis on chronic disease management, cancer survivorship, and psychosocial factors influencing health behaviors. The lab investigates the impact of exercise interventions, leadership, and psychological factors on physical fitness, quality of life, and mental well-being in individuals with diabetes, cancer survivors, and school-aged children. Key research directions include developing and validating physical activity assessment tools, examining the role of motivation and leadership in exercise adherence, and exploring the psychological mechanisms underlying relational aggression and health-related behaviors.

15Type 2 diabetes is a heterogeneous disease characterized by insulin resistance and altered glucose and lipid metabolism in multiple organs. To understand the complex series of events that occur during the development of obesity-associated diabetes, we examined the temporal pattern of changes in insulin action and glucose metabolism in individual organs during chronic high-fat feeding in C57BL/6 mice. Insulin-stimulated cardiac glucose metabolism was significantly reduced after 1.5 weeks of high-
The goal of this study was to develop a Korean version of the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (K-GPAQ) and to examine its reliability and validity. The English version of the GPAQ was translated to the Korean language (K-GPAQ) via forward–backward translation. Reliability of the K-GPAQ was evaluated using a one-week interval test–retest method with 115 individuals. Criterion-related validity of the K-GPAQ was examined with 199 participants using accelerometers. Cohen’s kappa and Spearman’
BACKGROUND: The purpose of the current study was to examine the effect of an oncologist's exercise recommendation with and without an exercise motivation package on the amount of exercise participation and quality of life (QOL) in survivors of breast and colorectal cancer. METHODS: A total of 162 survivors of early-stage breast and colorectal cancer who completed primary and adjuvant treatments were recruited for the current study. Participants were randomly assigned into 1 of 3 groups: 1) contr
Despite improvement in prognosis of colorectal cancer, colorectal cancer survivors often suffer from adverse effects of cancer treatment, including reduced health-related fitness level. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the feasibility and efficacy of the 6-week home-based exercise program on the level of physical activity and physical fitness in stage II to III colorectal cancer survivors. Seventy-two stage II to III colorectal cancer survivors were randomly assigned to either a home-based

BACKGROUND: Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is recommended for patients with cardiovascular disease. However, the participation and completion rates for hospital-based CR are low, and home-based CR has been suggested as an alternative. This study aimed to develop a home-based CR program and assess the feasibility of the program over a 6-week period in patients with left ventricular dysfunction or a history of myocardial infarction. METHODS: This feasibility study consisted of two phases. The initial
