About the Lab
Professor Kyungsu Kim's research lab specializes in otorhinolaryngology and molecular medicine, focusing on the pathophysiology of chronic rhinosinusitis, nasal epithelial immune responses, and the therapeutic potential of natural compounds and neuromodulators in upper airway disorders. The lab investigates molecular mechanisms underlying mucin and inflammatory mediator secretion, apoptosis in oral cancer cells, and the role of neurotransmitters and signaling pathways in nasal physiology and disease. Key research directions include identifying bioactive components of herbal extracts like Ginkgo biloba, evaluating botulinum toxin as a novel treatment for intrinsic rhinitis, and elucidating the anatomical and functional aspects of the nasofrontal duct system.
