About the Lab

Professor Min Hye Kim's research lab focuses on the immunological and microbiological mechanisms underlying allergic and inflammatory diseases, particularly atopic dermatitis and severe asthma. The lab investigates the role of microbial components—especially bacterial extracellular vesicles (EVs)—in systemic and local immune responses, aiming to identify pathogenic and protective microbial signatures. Using integrative approaches combining metagenomics, serum biomarker detection, and clinical immunology, the lab seeks to develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for type 2 inflammation and drug-induced anaphylaxis.

Allopurinol is one of the causative drugs that induce fixed drug eruption (FDE). The lymphocyte transformation test (LTT) is a safe and reliable diagnostic procedure for drug allergy, but is reported to be rarely positive in patients with FDE. In the current case, we performed an LTT and successfully confirmed allopurinol as the offending drug. This case report suggests that an LTT should be an optional diagnostic tool for FDE or delayed reaction due to allopurinol.
