Professor Min Seok Kim's research lab specializes in advanced materials synthesis and bioanalytical chemistry, with a focus on designing functional nanomaterials for biomedical and environmental applications. The lab develops novel mesoporous and hollow nanostructures—such as silica and carbon capsules—engineered for drug delivery and catalytic applications, while also exploring the electronic and optical tuning of gold clusters through heteroatom doping. In parallel, the lab investigates host-microbiome interactions in human diseases, particularly colorectal cancer, by integrating metabolomics and microbiome profiling to uncover disease-associated metabolic signatures. The research bridges nanotechnology, synthetic chemistry, and systems biology to enable precision medicine and sustainable material design.

Heteroatom doping is a powerful means to tune the optical and electronic properties of gold clusters at the atomic level. We herein report that doping a Au 38 cluster with Pt and Pd atoms leads to core-doped [Pt 2 Au 36 (SC 6 H 13 ) 24 ] 2– and [Pd 2 Au 36 (SC 6 H 13 ) 24 ] 0, respectively.
