About the Lab
Professor Min-sun Cho's research lab focuses on innate immune signaling pathways, particularly the roles of receptor tyrosine kinases (e.g., Mer and Src) in regulating inflammation and tissue injury in acute lung injury and autoimmune diseases. The lab investigates molecular mechanisms underlying Toll-like receptor (TLR) regulation, danger-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) such as HMGB1, and their implications in infectious and inflammatory diseases, including hepatitis C and rheumatoid arthritis. A key research direction involves identifying biomarkers—such as ctDNA shedding and sMer—associated with disease progression and immune modulation. The lab also explores therapeutic targets in pulmonary and systemic inflammatory conditions.

15Mer signaling participates in a novel inhibitory pathway in TLR activation. The purpose of the present study was to examine the role of Mer signaling in the down-regulation of TLR4 activation-driven immune responses in mice, i.t.-treated with LPS, using the specific Mer-blocking antibody. At 4 h and 24 h after LPS treatment, expression of Mer protein in alveolar macrophages and lung tissue decreased, sMer in BALF increased significantly, and Mer activation increased. Pretreatment with anti-Mer a
Src tyrosine kinases (TKs) are signaling proteins involved in cell signaling pathways toward cytoskeletal, membrane and nuclear targets. In the present study, using a selective Src TK inhibitor, PP1, we investigated the roles of Src TKs in the key pulmonary responses, NF-kappaB activation, and integrin signaling during acute lung injury in BALB/C mice intratracheally treated with LPS. LPS resulted in c-Src phosphorylation in lung tissue and the phospho-c-Src was predominantly localized in recrui
Background: The aim of study was to determine the relative frequency of malignant lymphoma according to World Health Organization (WHO) classification in Korea. Methods: A total of 3,998 cases diagnosed at 31 institutes between 2005 and 2006 were enrolled. Information including age, gender, pathologic diagnosis, site of involvement and immunophenotypes were obtained. Results: The relative frequency of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) was 95.4% and 4.6%, respectively. B-cell l
Rheumatoid vasculitis is a rare, but most serious extra-articular complications of long-standing, seropositive rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Vasculitis of hepatic artery is an extremely rare but severe manifestation of rheumatoid vasculitis. A 72-year-old woman who presented with polyarthralgia for 2 months was diagnosed with early RA. Since she had manifestations of livedo reticularis, and liver dysfunction which was atypical for RA patients, a percutaneous needle liver biopsy was performed reveal
We suggest that primary or total tumor burden, solid adenocarcinoma morphology, tumor necrosis, and frequent mitosis could predict ctDNA shedding in pulmonary adenocarcinoma.
High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), an abundant nuclear protein that triggers host immune responses, is an endogenous danger signal involved in the pathogenesis of various infectious agents. However, its role in hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is not known. Here, we show that HMGB1 protein is translocated from the nucleus to cytoplasm and subsequently is released into the extracellular milieu by HCV infection. Secreted HMGB1 triggers antiviral responses and blocks HCV infection, a mechanism tha
BACKGROUND: Although altered levels of adiponectin have been reported as a potential risk factor in colorectal cancer (CRC), the importance of the role played by adiponectin in colorectal carcinogenesis has not been established. We sought to examine the expression pattern of adiponectin and adiponectin receptors (AdipoRs) in the normal-adenoma-carcinoma sequence and to assess the implications of adiponectin in colorectal carcinogenesis. METHODS: Serum adiponectin concentrations, and the mRNA and
Abstract Context. —Kikuchi disease is a self-limiting febrile lymphadenopathy characterized by a patchy area of apoptosis. Kikuchi disease is thought to be caused by a virus, but this has not been clearly demonstrated. Human herpesviruses 6 and 7 (HHV-6 and HHV-7) are lymphotropic viruses that can induce apoptosis in infected lymphocytes. Recently, HHV-8 was reported to be a possible etiologic agent of Kikuchi disease. Objective. —To investigate the incidence of HHV-6, HHV-7, and HHV-8 infection
Background : Regulatory T cells (Tregs) may contribute to the immunological hyporesponsiveness against hepatitis B virus (HBV), and this can result in chronic infection. Tregs suppress the T cell responses directed against HBV and they protect hepatocytes by down-regulating the immune responses that cause liver damage, but the role of Tregs has not been well characterized. Methods : Fifty four patients were selected and classified into three groups (12 were in the immune-tolerance phase, 35 were
Objectives DNA methylation of promoter-associated CpG islands is an epigenetic modification of DNA associanted with gene silencing. p73 is a member of the p 53 family which is a tumor suppressor gene producing apoptosis and cell cycel arrest. We investigated the methylation pattern of p73 on the cases diagnosed at Ewha university hospital between 1993-2002. Material and Methods Sixteen cases of NK/T cell lymphomas and 7 cases of normal controls, which were 2 cases of peripheral blood mononuclear
