About the Lab
Professor Myeonghee Shin's research lab focuses on molecular epidemiology and thyroid endocrinology, with a strong emphasis on genetic polymorphisms—particularly in the CYP17 gene—and their association with breast cancer risk in Korean populations. The lab also investigates thyroid function and hormone reference intervals in relation to iodine nutrition, contributing critical insights into population-specific thyroid health. Additionally, the lab explores clinical predictors for laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), assessing the utility of symptom scores in guiding treatment response. 15The reference interval of TSH in Korea, where iodine intake is above the requirement, was 0.59-7.03 mIU/L and showed U-shaped change with age, which was a similar pattern to iodine intake. The reference interval of FT4 was 0.92-1.60 ng/dL. The geometric mean and upper limit of TSH were higher than those of Western populations, reflecting the paramount importance of iodine intake on thyroid function.
In this work, etching characteristics of TaN(200nm)∕HfO2(80nm) gate-stack structures on Si substrate were investigated by varying the process parameters such as BCl3∕(BCl3+Ar+O2) gas mixing ratio (Q), top-electrode power, dc self-bias voltage (Vdc), and overetch time in an inductively coupled plasma etcher. The incidence data (1991. 7. 11992. 6. 30) from the Implementation Study of Seoul Cancer Registry (ISSCR) were evaluated in terms of its completeness and validity. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was higher in KEs than in host country residents in Japan but not in China. Abdominal obesity and triglyceride are both discriminating and influential components in metabolic syndrome.
No single macronutrient was associated with BMI when all subjects were combined. However, when stratified by age, polyunsaturated fatty acid intake in younger women, and animal protein intake in older women, were positively associated with BMI. In the future, we recommend a larger study to confirm these results.
