About the Lab
Professor Myung-hee Ahn's research lab specializes in host-pathogen interactions, particularly focusing on protozoan and helminthic parasites that cause significant human diseases. The lab investigates immune evasion mechanisms employed by parasites such as *Trichomonas vaginalis*, *Toxoplasma gondii*, and *Paragonimus westermani*, with an emphasis on how these pathogens modulate host inflammatory responses and immune cell death. Key research directions include the role of macrophages and eosinophils in parasite-induced inflammation, the regulation of cytokine signaling (especially NF-κB and caspase pathways), and the development of diagnostic and vaccine strategies using molecular tools like PCR and recombinant antigens.
