About the Lab

Professor Na Young Kim's research lab focuses on gastrointestinal oncology and infectious disease epidemiology, with a primary emphasis on *Helicobacter pylori* infection and its role in gastric carcinogenesis. The lab investigates the molecular and clinical aspects of telomerase activity in cancer, antibiotic resistance patterns in *H. pylori*, and the development of personalized postoperative pain management strategies. A key research direction involves identifying risk factors for gastric cancer, particularly the interplay between *H. pylori* infection and family history, with an aim to improve early detection and prevention strategies.

Retrospective Assessment of the Validity of Robotic Surgery in Comparison to Open Surgery for Pediatric Choledochal Cyst
Na Young Kim, Eun Young Chang, Young Ju Hong, Simin Park, Ha Yan Kim, Sun Joon Bai, Seok Joo Han
SJR Q2Yonsei Medical JournalOA

Although early complications could not be avoided during the development of robotic surgical techniques, RS for pediatric CC showed results comparable to those for OS. We believe that RS may be a valid and alternative surgery for pediatric CC. After further development of robotic surgical systems and advancement of surgical techniques therewith, future prospective studies may reveal more positive results.

Effect of Dexmedetomidine on Sevoflurane Requirements and Emergence Agitation in Children Undergoing Ambulatory Surgery
Na Young Kim, So Yeon Kim, Hye Jin Yoon, Hae Keum Kil
SJR Q2Yonsei Medical JournalOA

PURPOSE: Dexmedetomidine, a potent selective α2-adrenergic agonist, produces sedation and analgesia. This study was conducted to assess the effect of dexmedetomidine infusion on sevoflurane requirements, recovery profiles, and emergence agitation in children undergoing ambulatory surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty children undergoing ambulatory hernioplasty or orchiopexy were randomized into two groups. The dexmedetomidine group (Group D, n=20) received dexmedetomidine 1 μg/kg, followed by 0.

SJR Q2Frontiers in OncologyOA

Background A robotic deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap created through a totally extraperitoneal approach minimizes violation of the donor site, which may lead to postoperative pain reduction and rapid recovery. The authors compared the clinical outcomes of robotic and conventional DIEP flap breast reconstructions. Methods Data from consecutive patients who underwent mastectomy with DIEP flaps for breast reconstruction between July 2017 and January 2021 were retrospectively reviewe

SJR Q2The Korean Journal of Internal MedicineOA

The detection rates of H. pylori in DP and saliva by PCR were rather low, 6.9% and 28.6%, respectively, and these rates might have been underestimated by low sensitivity of the PCR method used in this study. However, the results that H. pylori was found in the DP and saliva suggest that the oral cavity can perform a role as a reservoir of H. pylori in Korea.

Prognostic Value of Systemic Inflammatory Indices, NLR, PLR, and MPV, for Predicting 1-Year Survival of Patients Undergoing Cytoreductive Surgery with HIPEC
Na Young Kim, Duk‐Hee Chun, So Yeon Kim, Nam Kyu Kim, Seung Hyuk Baik, Jung Hwa Hong, Kyung‐Sup Kim, Cheung Soo Shin
SJR Q1Journal of Clinical MedicineOA

The neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and mean platelet volume (MPV) have been reported to be associated with the prognosis of various types of tumors. This study evaluated the prognostic value and clinical use of inflammatory markers for predicting 1-year survival in patients undergoing cytoreductive surgery (CRS) with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). This retrospective study included 160 patients who underwent CRS with HIPEC between Jul

SJR Q1Journal of EndourologyOA

PURPOSE: This study was to evaluate the effect of intraoperative continuous infusion of dexmedetomidine on intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients undergoing robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RALRP) in the steep Trendelenburg (ST). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty-eight patients were randomly divided into two groups. The dexmedetomidine group (Group D, n=34) received a continuous infusion of dexmedetomidine at a rate of 0.4 μg kg(-1) hour(-1) from the induction of anesthesia until th

SJR Q1Journal of Clinical MedicineOA

Remimazolam has been suggested to improve the maintenance of hemodynamic stability when compared with other agents used for general anesthesia. This study aimed to compare the effects of remimazolam and sevoflurane anesthesia on hemodynamic stability in patients undergoing robotic gastrectomy. We retrospectively reviewed the electronic medical records of 199 patients who underwent robotic gastrectomy with sevoflurane (n = 135) or remimazolam (n = 64) anesthesia from January to November 2021. Na Young Kim, Jung Hwa Hong, Dong Hoon Koh, Jong Soo Lee, Hoon Jae Nam, So Yeon Kim
SJR Q1Journal of Clinical MedicineOA

Postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) is still a concern in partial nephrectomy (PN), even with the development of minimally invasive technique. We aimed to compare AKI incidence between patients with and without diabetes mellitus (DM) and to determine the predictive factors for postoperative AKI. This case-matched retrospective study included 884 patients with preoperative creatinine levels ≤1.4 mg/dL who underwent laparoscopic or robot-assisted laparoscopic PN between December 2005 and May 2

SJR Q3MedicineOA

Diabetic foot ulcer is the most common cause of diabetes-associated nontraumatic lower extremity amputation. Most patients who undergo lower extremity amputation for a diabetic foot have had diabetes for a long time and suffer from multiorgan disorder; thus, it can be a challenge to ensure sufficient anesthetic and analgesic effects while maintaining stable hemodynamics. Recently, peripheral nerve block has gained popularity owing to its attenuating effects of systemic concerns. This retrospecti
