Professor Sae-Wung Kang's research lab specializes in posterior segment retinal diseases, with a primary focus on the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV), central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC), and macular disorders such as macular holes and diabetic macular edema. 15The type of macular hole closure, which was influenced by the preoperative hole diameter, was associated with postoperative visual prognosis. Early detection and intervention in macular hole should be emphasised.
Macular laser coagulation effectively maintains improved visual acuity after IVTA for diffuse DME and is believed to reduce recurrent DME after IVTA.
This study demonstrates that engorgement of the vortex vein was observed more frequently in the eyes with PCV. Such a finding was associated with choroidal thickening and choroidal vascular hyperpermeability. These indicate that the engorgement of the vortex vein might be involved in the pathogenic mechanisms of PCV.
LGH is a highly sensitive and specific ICGA finding for the diagnosis of PCV. Increased surveillance should be implemented in eyes in which LGH persists after PDT.
We identified clinical characteristics and risk factors of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) in eyes with prior episode of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). This retrospective case-control study included those initially diagnosed with CSC and developed CNV secondarily (Group 1, n = 16), those diagnosed with CNV in eyes of previous putative CSC (Group 2, n = 14), and those initially diagnosed with CSC, and did not develop CNV secondarily, as a control group for Group 1 (Group 3, n = 250).
