About the Lab
Professor Sang-Eun Choi's research lab specializes in health economics, pharmacoeconomics, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) assessment, with a focus on chronic respiratory and cardiovascular diseases such as asthma, COPD, and chronic heart failure. The lab conducts cost-effectiveness analyses of medical interventions, including intravenous iron therapy and vaccination strategies, and develops and validates mapping algorithms between patient-reported outcome measures and standardized HRQoL instruments like EQ-5D. The research also extends into pharmaceutical solid-state characterization, particularly polymorphism and thermodynamic stability of drug substances such as donepezil.

본 연구는 최근 4개년(2010-2013) 동안의 국민건강영양조사 자료를 이용하여 흡연이 유발하는 대표적인 질병인 심혈관질환과 폐질환의 유병률을 확인하고 흡연이 해당 질병에 미치는 영향을 연령, 성별, 학력, 혼인여부 등을 고려하여 추정하였다. 심혈관질환과 폐질환 모두 40세 미만 연령대에선 거의 나타나지 않았다. 40세 이상 성인의 심혈관질환 유병률은 남성이 3.6%, 여성이 3.2%로 남녀간 차이가 크지 않았으나 폐질환의 경우 남성 유병률이 1.1%, 여성이 0.4%로 남성이 여성보다 2배 이상 높게 나타났다. 로지스틱 회귀분석을 이용해 흡연이 심혈관질환과 폐질환에 미치는 영향을 추정한 결과 여성의 경우 환자 표본수의 부족으로 유의한 영향을 찾을 수 없었고, 남성의 경우 흡연자는 비흡연자보다 심혈관질환의 위험이 1.9배, 폐질환의 위험이 2.9배 정도로 높아짐을 확인하였다. 또한 남녀 모두에서 연령의 증가는 심혈관질환의 상승요인인 것을 확인하였다. 과거흡연자가 현재흡연자보다 질병

오리지널 의약품과 같은 효능을 가지면서 값이 싼 제네릭 의약품을 처방, 사용하는 것은 소비자의 약제비 부담을 줄여주고, 국가의 건강보험지출을 합리적으로 하는 수단이 될 수 있다. 제네릭 의약품에 대한 연구가 중요함에도 불구하고, 오리지널과 제네릭을 분류할 수 있는 객관적인 기준과 자료가 없었기 때문에, 우리나라에서는 이에 대한 연구가 활발히 이루어지지 않았다. 본 연구는 청구금액 상위 10대 성분에 한정시켜, 오리지널과 제네릭 의약품의 분류를 위한 객관적 기준을 마련코자 하였으며, 제네릭 의약품의 가격과 사용량 수준을 파악하였다. 연구 결과, 단가가 높은 의약품이 오리지널 의약품이 아닌 경우가 많았으며, 제네릭 의약품의 가격 역전 현상이 빈번하게 발생하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 제네릭 의약품들간의 가격 편차가 크고, 고가 제네릭 의약품의 사용량이 많은 것으로 나타났으며, 제네릭 의약품과 오리지널의약품간의 가격 차이가 작아질수록 점유율이 커지는 것으로 나타났다. 유럽 11개국에서 제
