About the Lab
Professor Sang Hoon Song's research lab focuses on diverse scientific domains spanning biomedicine, pharmaceutical analysis, and materials science. The lab investigates female sexual dysfunction in the Korean population, explores biomarkers for tuberculosis diagnosis, and conducts advanced drug monitoring using HPLC/MS/MS. Additionally, the lab studies microbial ecology in traditional Korean fermentation products like nuruk and develops layered perovskite materials for energy storage applications, particularly lithium-ion insertion in oxide-based cathodes. These interdisciplinary efforts reflect a strong commitment to translational health research and functional materials development.

A variety of nuruk were collected from various provinces in Korea, and their microflora profiles were analyzed at the species level. The layered perovskite compounds Na Ln TiO 4 ( Ln = Y, La–Tb) have Ln 2 O 2 rock-salt layers alternating with Na 2 O 2 rock-salt layers on either side of a TiO 2 sheet. The cation ordering introduces an internal electric field perpendicular to the layers. Staphylococcus pettenkoferi is a recently isolated human pathogen with only a few reported cases of infection. We report a case of bloodstream infection caused by S. pettenkoferi in a patient with pulmonary tuberculosis.
Sera from patients with TB had higher alpha-1-antitrypsin levels than sera from control participants. Alpha-1-antitrypsin levels may aid in the diagnosis of TB.
Through this study, acceptable analytical performance of novel Alinity i system has been verified. It is expected to readily replace existing instrument and to be an option for laboratories considering introduction of automated immunoassay analyzer.
The assay showed acceptable precision, trueness, linearity, and limit of quantification, and correlated well with LC-MS/MS. Therefore, its analytical performance is satisfactory for monitoring the drug concentration of voriconazole.
