Professor Sang-Won Park's research lab focuses on translational biomedical research with a strong emphasis on infectious diseases, particularly emerging and re-emerging infections such as scrub typhus and severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS), as well as liver injury and regenerative medicine. We identified the presence of indigenous urban scrub typhus in Seoul, and a subgroup of them had mild clinical features. The chigger mite H. miyagawai infected with O. tsutsugamushi within the city was found. This study examined the effects of baicalin, a bioactive flavonoid isolated from Scutellariae Radix, on carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4))-induced liver injury. Mice were treated intraperitoneally with 0.5 ml/kg CCl(4) and different groups of animals received 25, 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg baicalin.
