About the Lab
Professor Sangah Han's research lab focuses on molecular oncology and cancer genetics, with a primary emphasis on the regulation of tumor suppressor proteins and oncogenes in human cancers. The lab investigates post-translational modifications, such as ubiquitination, that control key regulators like pVHL and SKP2, and explores their roles in tumorigenesis, metastasis, and therapy response. Additionally, the lab examines genetic susceptibility and risk prediction in hereditary cancers, particularly BRCA1/BRCA2-related breast and ovarian cancers, as well as molecular markers in thyroid cancer, including BRAF mutations and FOSB gene polymorphisms. Their work integrates molecular biology, pathology, and clinical epidemiology to identify novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers.

15The von Hippel-Lindau tumor suppressor pVHL is an E3 ligase that targets hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs). Mutation of VHL results in HIF up-regulation and contributes to processes related to tumor progression such as invasion, metastasis, and angiogenesis.
