Virtual companions on social media: exploring user relationships with virtual fashion influencers
Anshika Shukla, Se Jin Kim
SJR Q1Humanities and Social Sciences CommunicationsOA

Para-social interaction (PSI) refers to the illusory relationships between media characters and users and has been studied recently. However, the digital era necessitates a contemporary exploration of PSI in the context of emerging media forms. This study examines PSI between virtual fashion influencers (VFIs) and Instagram users, guided by actor-network theory (ANT) and a review of the literature. We apply four core segments of ANT—problematisation, interessement, enrolment, and mobilisation—an

The environmental toll of the fashion industry is significantly exacerbated by resource-intensive design and sam- pling phases, in which repetitive physical prototyping is standard. Although 3D virtual sampling has emerged as a promising alternative, its ecological benefits have not been rigorously and quantitatively validated. This challenge is compounded by the forthcoming EU Digital Product Passport (DPP), which mandates lifecycle transparency, but lacks a clear framework for integrating desi
