About the Lab
Professor Semee Yoon's research lab focuses on the socioeconomic impacts of energy access and environmental policies in developing countries, with a particular emphasis on rural electrification, renewable energy adoption, and air pollution. The lab investigates how technological innovations—especially in clean energy—interact with household welfare, gender dynamics, and social development, using rigorous field experiments and longitudinal data. ABSTRACT This study investigates the gendered impact of household wealth on children's educational aspirations in China. Using two waves of longitudinal survey data of Chinese households from 2012 and 2016, we find that household assets have a differential impact on girls' and boys' educational aspirations.
