About the Lab

Professor Seojin Stacey Lee's research lab focuses on consumer behavior, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and pro-environmental decision-making, with a particular emphasis on the airline industry and crisis contexts such as pandemics. The lab investigates how identity, social context, and personal experiences—such as CSR exposure or pandemic-related concerns—affect consumer attitudes, forgiveness, and sustainable consumption. Key research directions include the moderating roles of socio-economic factors, group identity, and psychological motivations in shaping consumer loyalty, donation behavior, and well-being. The lab employs experimental and longitudinal methods, including daily diary studies and ecological momentary assessment, to explore real-time dynamics in behavior and well-being.

Modified Pyramid of CSR for Corporate Image and Customer Loyalty: Focusing on the Moderating Role of the CSR Experience
Seojin Stacey Lee, Yaeri Kim, Taewoo Roh
SJR Q1SustainabilityOA

The current study aims to suggest a modified pyramid of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the airline industry and find the moderating effects of consumer’s CSR experience (CSRE). Although previous studies proved the positive effects of CSR, there are surprisingly few research studies that incorporate Carroll’s fundamental CSR and specific issues of environmental responsibility in the airline industry as the integrated model. Thus, we suggest an alternative perspective of CSR, which can a

The underdog trap: The moderating role of transgression type in forgiving underdog brands

SJR Q1Psychology and Marketing

Abstract This study aims to investigate the interactive effects of brand biography and brand transgression type on consumers’ forgiveness intention. Brand transgression is categorized as relational or nonrelational, with the former (compared to the latter) seriously undermining consumers’ high identification with underdog brands. Across four experimental studies in which transgression type is manipulated in three different ways, it is confirmed that when facing nonrelational transgressions, part

Taking Another Look at Airline CSR: How Required CSR and Desired CSR Affect Customer Loyalty in the Airline Industry
Yaeri Kim, Seojin Stacey Lee, Taewoo Roh
SJR Q1SustainabilityOA

This study aims to take another look at corporate social responsibility (CSR) dimensions in airline industries and identify the moderating effects of socio-economic characteristics on customer loyalty. We applied Carroll’s four CSR dimensions and reorganized economic and legal responsibilities under ‘required CSR’ and philanthropic and environmental responsibilities under ‘desired CSR’. The current study reveals that customer loyalty increased when customers perceived airlines to be practicing d

The Role of Beneficiaries’ Group Identity in Determining Successful Appeal Strategies for Charitable Giving
Kiwan Park, Seojin Stacey Lee
SJR Q1Psychology and Marketing

ABSTRACT What types of message appeals in charity advertisements are most likely to convince people to donate? Using university rivalry (Studies 1 and 2), nationality (Study 3), and freely chosen groups (Study 4), this research proposes that the beneficiaries’ group identity moderates the relative effectiveness of three benefit foci of message appeals in charity advertisements. The results indicate that other‐benefit appeals produce greater donation intentions than external self‐benefit appeals

SJR Q2Frontiers in PsychologyOA

Would the life-threatening pandemic impact pro-environmental behavior? This study demonstrates the effects of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on pro-environmental product consumption. Two experimental studies manipulated individuals' COVID-19 concerns and the presence/absence of pro-environmental prompts. In study 1, we found that consumers indicated lower purchase intention for a product with the environmental prompts when recalling COVID-19 concerns compared to normal situations. In study

To drink, or to exercise: That is (not) the question! Daily effects of alcohol consumption and exercise on well‐being
Seojin Stacey Lee, Kyunghwa Yu, Eun-Soo Choi, Incheol Choi
SJR Q1Applied Psychology Health and Well-Being

Drinking alcohol and exercising are two of the most popular ways of dealing with stress. Despite the fact that they often co-occur, few studies have examined the role of the two activities together in everyday well-being. The current research aimed to investigate the dynamics between these two daily activities and various indices of well-being in a natural environment by using a daily diary method and ecological momentary assessment. We asked 478 adults to record their alcohol intake, exercising

SJR Q3Social Behavior and Personality An International JournalOA

We explored how consumer attitudes toward service delivery types (selfservice technology vs. face-to-face) differ in a private consumption context depending on the brand personality (underdog brand vs. topdog brand). Using banking service (Study 1) and hotel service (Study 2) scenarios, we empirically investigated the interaction effects between service delivery types and brand personalities on consumer attitudes. The results indicate that for humanized underdog brands consumers showed a more po
