About the Lab
Professor Seong Jin Jeong's research lab specializes in urological disorders, particularly focusing on lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in the elderly, with an emphasis on detrusor underactivity and its clinical implications. The lab investigates urodynamic parameters, urinary continence recovery after radical prostatectomy, and the impact of anatomical factors such as vesico-urethral anastomosis location on surgical outcomes. Additionally, the lab contributes to the development and validation of patient-reported outcome measures in Korean populations and explores biomarker accuracy, such as PSA, in diverse patient groups including obese men. Their work bridges clinical urology, urodynamics, and patient-centered outcomes research.

15PURPOSE: To identify the prevalence and clinical features of detrusor underactivity (DU) in elderly men and women presenting with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed 1,179 patients aged over 65 years who had undergone a urodynamic study for LUTS with no neurological or anatomical conditions. DU was defined as a bladder contractility index <100 and a maximal flow rate (Qmax) ≤12 ml/s combined with a detrusor pressure at Qmax ≤10 cmH(2)O for men and women, respe
A Korean version of the OABSS was developed and linguistic validation was performed. Further studies are needed to assess the reproducibility and validity of the questionnaire in Korean populations.
OBJECTIVES: To determine the association of vesico-urethral anastomosis location (VUAL) with early recovery of urinary continence (UC) after radical prostatectomy (RP). METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 678 patients who underwent RP was carried out. Patients were divided into three groups based on the VUAL as determined by postoperative cystography: group I - VUAL above the upper margin of the symphysis pubis (SP), group II - between the upper margin and the middle of the SP, and group III -
Each urodynamic criterion for men does not coincide with each other in the diagnosis of DU within individual subjects. On the other hand, PdetQmax 30 criteria and BVE criteria for women could be appropriately applied to clinical practice when diagnosing DU in women with LUTS.
UNLABELLED: What's known on the subject? and what does the study add?: As most urologist known, obesity significantly lowers serum PSA levels. So there is some concern about delayed diagnosis of prostate cancer in obese men. In the present study, we found that the accuracy level of PSA for detecting prostate cancer was not significantly different between different obesity levels. A well-designed study adjusting for several factors, e.g. diet, exercise, medication and comorbidity, which may possi
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the clinical prognosis of incontinence and to determine the predictors for further recovery of urinary continence in patients not achieving urinary continence within 1 year after radical prostatectomy. METHODS: A total of 708 patients were evaluated regarding urinary continence status at 1 year after surgery from a prospectively maintained radical prostatectomy database. Of these, 73 (10.3%) did not recover urinary continence within 1 year after surgery. For these patient
OBJECTIVES: Mid-urethral sling (MUS) surgery for the treatment of urinary incontinence has been widespread since the introduction of tension-free vaginal tape in the mid-1990s. The majority of studies with short-term follow-up <2 years found no differences in the surgical outcomes according to body mass index (BMI). However, considering the chronic influence of obesity on pelvic floor musculature, it is cautiously speculated that higher BMI could increase stress on pelvic floor and sub-urethral
The preventive effects of cyclosporine A combined with prednisolone on contralateral testicular damage were noted only in pubertal rats while the preventive effects of melatonin were noted in pubertal and adult rats. Results suggest that damage to the contralateral testis induced by an immunological mechanism may be more significant during puberty than during adulthood.
Purpose: The overactive bladder symptom score (OABSS) consists of 4 questions regarding OAB symptoms. The aim of this study was to develop Korean version of the OABSS from the original Japanese version, with subsequent linguistic validation. Methods: Between February and May 2008, the translation and linguistic validation process was performed as follows: a forward translation, reconciliation, backward translation, cognitive debriefing, and final proofreading. Results: A forward translation from
Because clinical symptoms are not useful for predicting the specific urodynamic etiology of LUTS in this population, urodynamic investigation can help to make an accurate diagnosis and, potentially, to guide appropriate treatment.
Augmentation enterocystoplasty (AEC) is a surgical procedure in which the bladder is enlarged using an intestinal segment in patients with lower urinary tract dysfunction who fail to achieve satisfactory results with all conservative treatments. Currently, surgical materials and procedures, concomitant correction of upper urinary tract abnormalities, or bladder neck reconstruction may vary depending on the experience and preferences of the surgeons. AEC has been proven to be successful with resp
AIMS: The significance of preoperative urodynamic studies in women with a "clinically-defined pure stress urinary incontinence (SUI) symptom" has been debated in recent years. We evaluated changes of reliability of pure SUI symptoms for prediction of pure urodynamic SUI (USUI) when the assessment of post-void residual (PVR) volume and a stress test, designated as the initial standard evaluation in the NICE and AUA guidelines, were added to the process for the diagnosis of pure SUI symptoms.
