About the Lab
Professor Seungmin Yang's research lab specializes in oral and maxillofacial implantology, with a strong focus on clinical and radiological evaluation of anatomical parameters critical for safe and effective dental implantation. The lab investigates bone morphology, vascular anatomy, and surgical risks in the posterior maxilla, particularly in relation to sinus augmentation and intraosseous vascular anastomosis. Their work integrates advanced imaging techniques such as cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) to assess bone quality, residual height, and proximity to vital structures like the maxillary sinus and inferior alveolar vessels. The lab also explores physiological and biomechanical factors affecting tissue integration and implant success, including fibroblast behavior on implant surfaces and patient-specific risk factors for complications.

15Within the limitations of this study, the cell attachment of human gingival fibroblasts was correlated with WCA, developed interfacial area ratio and surface slope. When the surfaces with Sa values of ∼ 0.2 μm or less were concerned, only WCA showed a correlation in a third order manner.
Posterior maxillary region is considered to be the most challenging area for dental implant placement. Lateral window opening is the gold standard procedure for maxillary sinus augmentation in this area. The purpose of this study is to evaluate lateral wall thickness of the maxillary sinus for sinus augmentation using computed tomography (CT) in edentulous patients. Computed tomography images of 302 patients were analysed. Using the maxillary sinus floor as the reference point in edentulous regi
Within the limitations of this study, sites with a higher residual bone height in the molar regions were at a relatively high risk of artery damage during window osteotomy preparation; therefore, we recommend taking more precautions when using a lateral approach for sinus elevation.
Many studies have reported spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma (SSEH). Although most cases are idiopathic, several are associated with thrombolytic therapy or anticoagulants. We report a case of SSEH coincident with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), which caused serious neurological deficits. A 56 year old man presented with chest pain accompanied with back and neck pain, which was regarded as an atypical symptom of AMI. He was treated with nitroglycerin, aspirin, low molecular weight heparin,
Many previous studies have focused on youth soccer player injuries without body component analysis compared to non-athletes. Only a few studies which have investigated body components of youth soccer players, and studies that look at electrical characteristics used by rheobase and chronaxie as well as body components are even scarcer. Therefore, we feel that there is a need for a study investigating objective clinical analysis of the body components (body structure and body composition) and elec
Purpose: The aims of this study were to measure the distance of the intraosseous vascularanastomosis in the anterolateral wall of the maxillary sinus from different reference points, and to correlate the location of the intraosseous vascular anastomosis with the tooth positionand the residual bone height of the maxilla. Methods: Computed tomography (CT) images were taken from 283 patients undergoingdental implants placement in the posterior maxilla. Three horizontal lines were drawn atthe ridge c
Several different approaches are discussed for implementing conversations in loosely coupled distributed computer systems (DCSs). Important implementation factors considered include the control of exits of processes on completion of their conversation tasks and the approach to execution of the conversation acceptance test. Two different exit control strategies, one in a synchronous manner and the other in an asynchronous manner, and three different approaches to execution of the conversation acc
CPP is chemically similar to natural bone and has higher stiffness. As one of our previous \nstudies has shown, CPP had osteoconductivity and biocompatibility. The purpose of this study was \nto compare the new bone formation in CPP granules between 3 and 12 months and to evaluate CPP \nas bone substituting materials.

UTARK (University of Texas at Arlington Real-time Kernel) is a real-time kernel designed to cope with the complexity of software for real-time embedded systems. The concepts behind the design of UTARK are described. Three major issues, i.e., communication, scheduling, and fault tolerance support, are discussed, along with a new development model for large, complex, distributed embedded real-time systems.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xli
The paper presents an approach to developing real time dependable systems (RDSs) based on a real time object model. A process to develop an RDS is divided into two phases (specification phase and construction phase), and a real time object model, named RTO.e, plays the role of a connector as well as that of a fire wall between two phases. RTO.e, an extension of the RTO.k model proposed earlier by K.H. Kim and H. Kopetz (1994), embeds the Z specification language and the exception section. Discus
