About the Lab
Professor Sim Jaewoo's research lab specializes in minimally invasive and arthroscopic surgical techniques for upper extremity disorders, with a strong focus on hand and wrist surgery, rotator cuff repair, and peripheral nerve anatomy. The lab investigates innovative approaches to improve clinical outcomes, including arthroscopic scaphoid excision with four-corner fusion, percutaneous A1 pulley release with steroid injection, and novel reconstruction techniques for complex nail deformities. A key emphasis is placed on anatomical precision, particularly in identifying variant motor branches in the carpal tunnel to prevent iatrogenic injury, and on developing reliable imaging-based measurement guidelines for rotator cuff and subscapularis tears. The lab also evaluates implant techniques, such as knotless versus knot-tying suture anchors in Bankart repairs, to optimize long-term joint stability and function.

This study presents our technique of arthroscopic scaphoid excision and four-corner arthrodesis and compares the clinical and radiological outcomes with those achieved with the open method.
