About the Lab
Professor Sohoon Yi's research lab focuses on migration, transnational labor, and the politics of belonging, particularly examining the experiences of Korean Chinese migrants in South Korea. The lab investigates how state policies and immigration technologies produce temporal and spatial forms of inclusion and exclusion, especially through visa systems like the H-2 and F-4 statuses. A central theme is the negotiation of identity, citizenship, and social belonging among transnational care workers. The lab also explores the broader implications of these dynamics for global migration governance and racialized labor regimes.

6Most migrant care workers in South Korea are Joseonjok migrants, ethnic Koreans from Northeastern China.
