About the Lab
Professor Soyoung Park's research lab focuses on translational neuroscience and clinical biomarker discovery, with a strong emphasis on neurological and endocrine disorders. The lab investigates thyroid function and its regulation in relation to iodine intake, explores predictive blood markers for ischemic stroke outcomes, and examines the neural circuitry of brain structures such as the claustrum and insula using advanced neuroimaging techniques. Additionally, the lab is engaged in innovative therapeutic strategies, including ketogenic diet applications in epilepsy and novel pH-responsive polysaccharide-drug conjugates for targeted cancer therapy.

15The reference interval of TSH in Korea, where iodine intake is above the requirement, was 0.59-7.03 mIU/L and showed U-shaped change with age, which was a similar pattern to iodine intake. The reference interval of FT4 was 0.92-1.60 ng/dL. The geometric mean and upper limit of TSH were higher than those of Western populations, reflecting the paramount importance of iodine intake on thyroid function.
The prevalence of asthma in Korea is consistently high among elderly and female populations. These results should lay the foundation for strategies for effective asthma prevention and management; elderly female patients with asthma should receive particular attention.
