About the Lab
Professor Sun Ho Lee's research lab focuses on advancing biomedical and materials science through innovative studies in regenerative medicine, ophthalmology, and energy materials. The lab investigates the role of stem cells—particularly dental pulp stem cells—in vascular regeneration, exploring molecular mechanisms such as the SDF-1α/CXCR4 axis in angiogenic interactions. In ophthalmology, the lab conducts clinical and genetic studies on retinal diseases like retinitis pigmentosa and macular holes, aiming to understand disease mechanisms and improve diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes. Additionally, the lab contributes to next-generation energy technologies by optimizing perovskite solar cells through defect passivation strategies guided by chemical properties such as acid dissociation constant (pKa).

The development of secondary MHs after vitrectomy is rare. Pathogenic mechanisms other than idiopathic MH may be involved in these cases. The anatomical and functional outcome of the secondary MHs that developed after vitrectomy was good, although the final visual acuity was dependent on the underlying ocular pathology.
Spectral OCT/SLO equipped with a test-retest function showed excellent reproducibility with regard to RNFL thickness measurements. The severity of glaucoma did not affect the reproducibility. These findings suggest that spectral OCT/SLO fulfills one of the basic premises for the diagnosis and progression analysis of glaucoma.
There has been no report about hereditary and clinical features of retinitis pigmentosa (RP) in Koreans.
