About the Lab
Professor Sung Im Do's research lab focuses on identifying and validating novel biomarkers and molecular mechanisms underlying breast cancer progression, metastasis, and treatment response. The lab investigates tumor microenvironment components such as tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, matrix metalloproteinases, and mucins to understand their roles in tumorigenesis and clinical outcomes. A key emphasis is placed on translational research, including image-guided lymph node marking for improved axillary staging and the prognostic significance of proteins like BRG1 and IMP3 in solid tumors. The lab integrates immunohistochemistry, tissue microarray analysis, and clinical correlation to advance precision oncology in breast and bone cancers.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to determine the feasibility of image-guided marker-clip placement in axillary lymph nodes (ALNs) for breast cancer upon initial presentation and to assess the reliability of this method with sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) for axillary restaging after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). METHODS: Between June 2015 and August 2016, a marker clip was placed at a clinically positive ALN under ultrasonography (US) guidance before initiation of NAC in 20 patients.
