About the Lab
Professor Sung Yung Lim's research lab focuses on the interplay between respiratory health, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease, with a particular emphasis on lung function abnormalities and their systemic implications. The lab investigates how insulin resistance, systemic inflammation, and metabolic syndrome affect pulmonary function, especially in early-stage lung disease such as COPD. Using large-scale population-based data and advanced molecular diagnostics, the lab explores biomarkers and risk factors linking metabolic and respiratory disorders. A key focus is identifying early indicators of cardiopulmonary risk, even within normal pulmonary function ranges, to improve preventive strategies.
