About the Lab
Professor Sunny Sung's research lab specializes in translational biomedical research, focusing on the molecular mechanisms underlying diabetic kidney disease, renal fibrosis, and rare renal and gastrointestinal malignancies. The lab investigates key signaling pathways such as VEGF and TGF-β/Smad3 in kidney injury and fibrosis, aiming to identify novel therapeutic targets. It also conducts clinical and pathological studies on gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) and ovarian cancer, developing image-based classifiers like PathoRiCH to predict treatment response. The lab integrates preclinical models with human pathology to advance precision medicine in nephrology and oncology.
