About the Lab
Professor Tae-Joon Bae's research lab specializes in entrepreneurship, social enterprises, and innovation ecosystems, with a strong focus on the psychological and institutional factors shaping entrepreneurial intentions and sustainable ventures. The lab investigates how education, emotional and cognitive motivations, institutional logics, and stakeholder dynamics influence entrepreneurial behavior and organizational sustainability. It also develops empirical tools and metrics to assess and support regional entrepreneurial ecosystems, particularly through data-driven, policy-relevant frameworks.

15The research on entrepreneurship education–entrepreneurial intentions has yielded mixed results. We meta–analyzed 73 studies with a total sample size of 37,285 individuals and found a significant but a small correlation between entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intentions ([Formula: see text]). This correlation is also greater than that of business education and entrepreneurial intentions. However, after controlling for pre–education entrepreneurial intentions, the relationship betw
Previous research has mainly focused on the cognitive-based theory of planned behavior (TPB) model to predict entrepreneurial intentions. However, given the close relationship between cognition and emotion, researchers may need to pay more attention to how emotional reactions help predict entrepreneurial intentions. To fill this gap, we apply both cognitive (i.e., descriptive norms) and emotional (i.e., anticipated inaction regret) aspects to understand predictors of entrepreneurial intentions.
This study examines the conditions under which dual commitments to competing institutional logics, particularly a social vs. a commercial logic, are both important to organizational functioning for social enterprises. Using hand-collected data from a survey of 190 social enterprises in South Korea, we identify a reliable measure for the sustainability of competing logics. We also identify the factors associated with variation in a social enterprise’s capacity to sustain dual commitments to compe
Recent studies indicate that a team with entrepreneurial passion performs positively. To understand the dynamics of new venture teams (NVTs), however, more research is needed on cross-level interactions and the cyclical relationship between passion and performance. We hypothesize that the perception of a lead entrepreneur’s passion and entrepreneurial passion diversity are team-level constructs that influence the relationship between entrepreneurial passion and performance. Furthermore, utilizin
Both academics and businesspeople are interested in how to make social enterprises sustainable. The focus of this research is on the different kinds of stakeholders within a group that make it easier for competing logics to coexist in social enterprises. Based on intra-stakeholder heterogeneity and competing institutional logics, we identify key sub-categories among market stakeholders such as investors, customers, and employees. We tested our hypotheses using survey data collected from 190 soci
This study aims to examine 1) the moderating effects of the team-level passion constructs (i.e., leaders’ entrepreneurial passion and entrepreneurial passion diversity) on the relationship between team members’ entrepreneurial passion and team performance, and 2) the mediating effect of team performance between pre- and post-team members’ passion. We test our multilevel models using multi-wave data collected from 160 individuals in 53 entrepreneurial teams. First, from a contingency perspective,
This study investigates the concept of evidence-based education, which prioritizes scientific research findings over personal experience, success narratives, and conventional beliefs. By emphasizing empirical evidence, evidence-based entrepreneurship education aids aspiring entrepreneurs, investors, and other stakeholders in the entrepreneurial ecosystem to maintain a neutral perspective and overcome cognitive biases that arise from prevailing myths, beliefs, and partial success stories. To gain
Social enterprises have recently been recognized as organizations located in the field where two competing institutional logics co-exist preeminently. My dissertation attempts to examine the conditions under which the centrality of competing institutional logics, referring to the degree to which two competing institutional logics are both important to organizational functioning, is higher or lower in social enterprises. Using hand-collected data from the survey of 190 social enterprises in South
