About the Lab

Professor Won Son's research lab focuses on hepatology and molecular biomarkers, with a strong emphasis on liver diseases such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and chronic hepatitis B (CHB). The lab investigates novel serological biomarkers—particularly serum exosomal and circulating microRNAs—alongside clinical risk prediction models to improve early diagnosis and risk stratification. Additional research directions include the role of metabolic factors (e.g., zinc, obesity, BMI) and neuroimmune mediators (e.g., substance P, VIP) in liver fibrosis and gastrointestinal disorders like IBS-D.
