About the Lab
Professor Yeon-Seok Jeong's research lab focuses on immunology and respiratory diseases, with a particular emphasis on the role of immune cells—especially CD8 T cells and NKT cells—in cancer immunosurveillance and allergic asthma. The lab investigates the microbiome's influence on airway immunity across age groups, especially in elderly populations, and explores novel vaccination strategies using autologous tumor cells to enhance anti-tumor immunity. Additionally, the lab contributes to patient safety research by evaluating adverse events in clinical settings through systematic medical record reviews. 15CD8 T cells play crucial roles in immune surveillance and defense against infections and cancer. After encountering antigenic stimulation, naïve CD8 T cells differentiate and acquire effector functions, enabling them to eliminate infected or malignant cells. Traditionally, cytotoxic T cells, characterized by their ability to produce effector cytokines and release cytotoxic granules to directly kill target cells, have been recognized as the constituents of the predominant effector T-cell subset.
