About the Lab
Professor Young Hye Kwon's research lab focuses on molecular mechanisms underlying liver metabolism, oxidative stress, and cellular homeostasis, with particular emphasis on the roles of cell cycle regulators like p21 and p27 in liver injury and regeneration. The lab investigates how dietary compounds such as luteolin and genistein modulate autophagy, apoptosis, and antioxidant pathways in cancer and metabolic liver diseases. Studies also explore fungal-host interactions at the cellular level, particularly in plant pathogenesis, and the regulation of key enzymes in sulfur amino acid metabolism. Overall, the lab integrates molecular biology, cell biology, and translational models to understand disease mechanisms and identify therapeutic targets.

15Rat hepatocytes cultured for 3 days in basal medium expressed low levels of cysteine dioxygenase (CDO) and high levels of gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase (GCS).
