About the Lab
Professor Young Sam Kim's research lab focuses on child and adolescent mental health, with a primary emphasis on autism spectrum disorder (ASD) prevalence, bullying-related psychosocial outcomes, and the development of culturally valid diagnostic tools. The lab investigates the interplay between behavioral health, social adversity, and neurobiological mechanisms, particularly in school-aged populations. Key research directions include improving early detection of ASD, understanding the longitudinal impact of school bullying on suicidal ideation, and validating psychiatric assessment instruments for Korean youth. The lab integrates epidemiological, clinical, and translational approaches to inform public health interventions and mental health policy.

15The C-reactive protein (CRP)/albumin ratio has recently emerged as a marker for poor prognosis or mortality across various patient groups. This study aimed to identify the association between CRP/albumin ratio and 28-day mortality and predict the accuracy of CRP/albumin ratio for 28-day mortality in medical intensive care unit (ICU) patients. This was a retrospective cohort study of 875 patients. We evaluated the prognostic value of CRP/albumin ratio to predict mortality at 28 days after ICU adm
BACKGROUND: Epidemic outbreaks of multi-drug resistant (MDR) Acinetobacter baumannii (AB) in intensive care units (ICUs) are increasing. The incidence of MDR AB bacteremia, which develops as a result of colonization, is increasing through widespread dissemination of the pathogen, and further colonization. We sought to determine risk factors for MDR AB bacteremia in patients colonized with MDR AB in the ICU. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective, observational study of 200 patients colonized with
BACKGROUND: The immature granulocyte count has been reported to be a marker of infection and sepsis. The difference in leukocyte subfractions (delta neutrophil index, DNI) in ADVIA 2120 reflects the fraction of circulating immature granulocytes in the blood. This study evaluated the clinical utility of DNI as a severity and prediction marker in critically ill patients with sepsis. METHODS: One hundred and three patients admitted to the medical intensive care unit with sepsis were studied. DNI (t
Patient-related factors (older age, higher ASA score, presence of anemia, and lower serum albumin) and procedure-related factors (performance of combined surgical procedure) increased postoperative complications. Avoidance of 30-day postoperative complications may decrease 1-year mortality.
Speed and torque controls of permanent magnet synchronous motors are usually attained by the application of position and speed sensors. However, speed and position sensors require the additional mounting space, reduce the reliability in harsh environments and increase the cost of a motor. Therefore, many studies have been performed for the elimination of speed and position sensors. This paper investigates a novel speed sensorless control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The proposed cont
The fluoroquinolone trovafloxacin was bactericidal (0.47 +/- 0.23 delta log10 CFU/ml x h after 10 mg/kg of body weight and 0.78 +/- 0.15 delta log10 CFU/ml x h after 30 mg/kg) in the treatment of experimental meningitis caused by a highly penicillin-resistant (MIC and minimum bactericidal concentration = 4 and 4 microg/ml) strain of Streptococcus pneumoniae. Combinations with ampicillin and rifampin were indifferent compared to single drugs.
Although fecal hydroxy fatty acids are known to be increased in steatorrhea, we found this increase to be inconstant in different types of steatorrhea. In eight normal subjects, hydroxy acids were undetectable in three and in no case exceeded 1.2 per cent of total fecal fatty acids. In 15 patients with steatorrhea from causes other than pancreatic insufficiency, hydroxy acid excretion per day ranged from 0.2 to 11.4 gm, representing from 5.1 to 20.9 per cent of their total fecal fat loss. In fiv
Background: The "health-related quality of life" (HRQL) for patients with chronic respiratory disease has been emphasized, because chronic respiratory disease (CRD) is chronic and progressive, and it finally causes disability. HRQL instruments may be useful for monitoring patients' progress or for determining the most appropriate choice of treatment. We describe the adapting St George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ), which is a self-administered questionnaire developed by Jones et al. (1991),
Erdheim-Chester disease is a disseminated non-Langerhans' cell histiocytosis involving multiple organs with characteristic sclerotic musculoskeletal lesions. This is the report of the case of a 53-year-old woman with extensive and progressive pulmonary disease. Computed tomography scans revealed diffuse infiltrative lung disease. Thoracoscopic lung biopsy and a biopsy of the right femur lesion were performed. The histopathology revealed that she had non-Langerhans' cell histiocytosis; Erdheim-Ch
This study compared the results of a tuberculin skin test (TST) and a whole-blood interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA) to screen latent tuberculosis (TB) infection (LTBI) according to risk of TB exposure in South Korea. A cross-sectional comparison of 82 healthcare workers (HCWs) was performed from June 2009 to January 2010. Participants were grouped according to their risk for TB exposure: group 1, frequent and direct contact with active TB patients (n = 35); group 2, no known history of direc
Low-level expression of such necroptosis factors as RIPK3 and PELI1 in combination with high-level expression of the DDR factor p53 can serve as a critical indicator in predicting survival of stage I NSCLC patients with the SCC subtype.
