About the Lab
Professor Yu Ri Kim's research lab focuses on interdisciplinary studies spanning global development economics, neurobiology, and health sciences, with a strong emphasis on practical interventions in health, education, and sustainable development. The lab investigates the impact of policy interventions—such as aid for trade, vocational training, and structured teaching—on economic outcomes and social well-being in developing contexts. It also explores neuroprotective mechanisms of traditional medicine and innovative applications of technology in construction and healthcare. The lab integrates experimental, clinical, and policy-oriented research to address real-world challenges in health, employment, and economic development.

15Abstract The importance of aid for trade as a tool for facilitating trade, economic growth and social development has received attention since the concept was introduced in 2005. While one of the main targets of aid for trade is export diversification, reflecting the fact that the exports of many developing countries are concentrated in a small range of items, there have not been many efforts to measure the effect of aid for trade on export structure. This study, therefore, attempts to trace the
In this study, we investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying the anti-apoptotic properties of electroacupuncture (EA) in a rat model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). Treatment with 2 Hz EA (1 mA) resulted in a markedly reduced infarct area after stroke, particularly in the middle region of the brain. Treatment with EA resulted in a significant decrease in the number of apoptotic cells identified by Hoechst 33342 and TUNEL staining. According to the results of the analysis for pr
Abstract This paper investigates the impacts of informational and motivational seminars on export promotion targeting small and medium enterprises in the traditional apparel and textile clusters in Vietnam. To control for biases due to self‐selection, we conducted a randomised controlled trial and invited randomly selected firms to participate in 1‐day seminars. Because only some of the invited firms participated in the seminars, we employ an instrumental variable approach in which the dummy var
From text mining of Dongeuibogam, the 7 herbs in Palmultang can be considered effective candidates for memory enhancement. We sought to determine whether Gagam-Palmultang, comprising these 7 herbs, ameliorates scopolamine-induced memory impairment in mice, by focusing on the central cholinergic system and memory-related signaling molecules. Behavioral tests were performed after inducing memory impairment by scopolamine administration. The cholinergic system activity and memory-related molecules
To support employment of individuals with severe disabilities, instructional approaches for improving independent performance are urgently needed. The purpose of this research was to assess the effects of TEACCH structured teaching on the independent work skills of individuals with severe disabilities in a job setting. A multiple probe across participants design was used for this study. Results demonstrated that structured teaching was effective in enhancing engagement and reducing disruptive be
Recently, as there has been high interests in Building Information Modeling (BIM), there are studies and movements to adapt this new paradigm in both academic field and industrial field. The purpose of this study is to establish the BIM process in the phase of structural design. Still it is a challenge to complete the entire cycle of BIM process in the structural design which has many interoperability problems. To solve these problems, it was developed a automatic reinforcement design system for
This study integrates the (extended) resource-based view (ERBV/RBV) and non-market strategy (i.e., corporate political activity) to investigate the role of internal and external resources as drivers of innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises in emerging markets (ESMEs). Using primary data from 192 Vietnam SMEs collected between 2014 and 2016, we adopted a partial least square estimation to examine our hypotheses, supplemented by ordinary least square and unobserved heterogeneity tests f
ABSTRACT This study investigates the non‐linear effects of political stability on economic development and explores the moderating role of institutional factors. Drawing on panel data from 162 countries between 2007 and 2022, we employ a system generalised method of moments (system‐GMM) estimator to test the hypothesis that political stability follows an inverted U‐shaped relationship with economic growth. Our findings provide robust support for the institutional sclerosis hypothesis, which refe
The complex healthcare system in the United States (US) poses significant challenges for people, particularly minorities such as refugees. Refugees often encounter additional layers of challenges to healthcare navigation due to unfamiliarity with the system, limited health literacy, and language barriers. Despite their challenges, it is difficult to identify the gaps as few tools exist to measure navigation competency among this population and many conventional tools assume English proficiency,
Political connection may facilitate firms' exporting activities particularly in developing countries, because politically connected firms may be more likely to receive informational and financial support, allowing them to overcome barriers to export. We test this hypothesis using a unique, firm-level dataset from traditional apparel and textile clusters in the Red River Delta Region in Northern Vietnam. We find that political connection of certain types increases the chance of receiving valuable
Introduction: The purpose of this study was to measure the fracture rates and adhesive remnant indices of two ceramic self-ligating orthodontic brackets after dental debonding. Methods: Clippy-C 2G (Tomy, Tokyo, Japan) and Majesty-SLC brackets (Osstem Orthodontics, Uiwang, Korea) were bonded on 72 premolars of 27 patients. Only maxillary and mandibular first premolar brackets were bonded. Debonding was done at least four weeks after the bonding using a debonding plier for Majesty-SLC brackets. A
