About the Lab
Professor Yun-Jung Cho's research lab focuses on immunology and metabolic diseases, with a strong emphasis on understanding the immune response to viral infections—particularly respiratory viruses like influenza and RSV—and the impact of metabolic disorders such as prediabetes and metabolic syndrome on vascular health. The lab investigates the interplay between innate immunity, chronic inflammation, and insulin resistance, exploring how pharmacological agents like rosiglitazone and natural compounds such as quercetin modulate inflammatory pathways and vascular function. Recent work also extends to evaluating immune responses following SARS-CoV-2 vaccination, examining the correlates of humoral and cellular immunity across different vaccine regimens and host factors.

Quercetin significantly inhibits iNOS-derived NO production in murine macrophages activated by P. intermedia LPS via anti-inflammatory HO-1 induction and inhibition of the nuclear factor-κB and STAT1 signaling pathways. Our study suggests that quercetin may contribute to the modulation of host-destructive responses mediated by NO and appears to have potential as a novel therapeutic agent for treating inflammatory periodontal disease.
