About the Lab
Professor Yunseon Choi's research lab focuses on palliative and end-of-life care, particularly advancing hospice and palliative care integration in clinical practice and public health systems. The lab investigates patient and family caregiver (FC) quality of life, with an emphasis on emotional distress, coping mechanisms, and psychosocial factors. It also explores public awareness and health system engagement related to advance care planning and chronic disease management, especially in the context of metabolic syndrome and adolescent mental health. The lab combines clinical, epidemiological, and health services research to improve holistic, family-centered care models.

15Emotional distress of FCs was the most important factor determining the overall and negative aspects of FCs' QOL, whereas various environmental factors were associated with positive coping. Appropriate support programs directed at these factors are needed to maintain and improve FCs' QOL.
In the United States, hospice and palliative care are two distinct expressions of the hospice interdisciplinary team approach to end-of-life care, which originated in Great Britain in the 1960s. The hospice movement developed largely as a home-care program and alternative to conventional care. Hospice regulations and reimbursement allowances limit services to patients who are expected to die within 6 months and who forego many common oncologic treatments. On the other hand, palliative care is a
A parallel version of the invaded cluster algorithm is described. Results from large scale (up to 4096 2 and 512 3 ) simulations of the Ising model are reported. No evidence of critical slowing down is found for the three-dimensional Ising model. The magnetic exponent is estimated to be 2.482±0.001(β/ν=0.518±0.001) for the three-dimensional Ising model.
CONTEXT: Advance care planning (ACP) and hospice palliative care (HPC) have potential benefits for individuals and health systems. Public awareness of them might increase their acceptance. OBJECTIVES: To examine public awareness of ACP and HPC and related factors including individuals' experience of health care among Korean population. METHODS: A cross-sectional study based on a nationally representative sample was conducted. Data from participants aged 15 years or older were examined. Socio-dem
Introduction Patients with terminal cancer often experience various oral problems. Whether oral health status is associated with the survival of terminally ill cancer patients receiving palliative care remains unclear. Methods We analyzed the data of 59 Korean patients with terminal cancer receiving palliative care, including their oral health status, using a modified Korean version of the Oral Health Assessment Tool (OHAT). Patients were categorized into “Good,” “Moderate,” or “Poor” groups bas
Hospice is defined by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO, USA) and WHO, as a program of care that provides comprehensive medical, nursing and support services to dying patients and their family. Despite its broad definition, however, hospice care in Korea has been focused mostly on terminal cancer patients. Thus hospice eligibility for patients with advanced cancer is relatively easier to predict than those with other fatal chronic illnesses such as heart, lung, renal o
