Professor Chul Jeong's research lab focuses on tourism behavior, consumer psychology, and sustainable practices in travel and hospitality. The lab investigates key drivers of tourist motivation, destination image formation, and the psychological mechanisms behind trust, loyalty, and pro-environmental behaviors such as food waste reduction. Central themes include the impact of digital information sources on travel decisions, the role of hedonic and eudaimonic experiences in tourism, and the influence of corporate social responsibility on customer perceptions. The lab employs mixed-methods and experimental designs to explore behavioral intentions and sustainable consumer actions.

Abstract Effects of a travel website on tourists' destination images were examined. The relationship between information search using websites and destination image was studied. In addition, the validity of experimental design as a method for examining destination image was explored. A static‐group comparison design was conducted using two sets of students as experimental and control groups. A travel website search was the stimuli for the experimental group. Results revealed that exposure to a t
This study examines airline travelers' causal attribution (stability and controllability) and its impact on trust and loyalty formation and investigates the moderating role of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in this process. Based on a literature review, theoretical relationships between stability, controllability, CSR, trust, and loyalty were derived, and the moderating effects of CSR on relationships between stability/controllability and trust/loyalty were examined. To empirically test t
This study aims to theoretically and methodologically contribute to tourism research by testing the philosophical assumption that hedonia is a necessary condition of eudaimonia in the context of tourist experiences. Based on a review of existing literature, four tourist eudaimonic elements were selected for this study, including meaning, self-connectedness, accomplishment, and personal expressiveness. In addition, four hedonic elements were selected, including positive affect, negative affect, c
This study examined the relationship between push and pull factors with regard to marine tourist motivations. The survey was distributed systematically to people intercepted at high-traffic locations in Seoul, South Korea. The results indicated that escape push motivations are closely related to static activity pull motivations, while novelty push motivations are more strongly related to active activity pull motivations. These relationships may be partially explained by the push-pull framework o
Researchers have pointed out the urgent need to tackle food waste from customers’ plates, considering its environmental and socioeconomic impacts. Nonetheless, little is known about reducing food waste from customers’ plates in the restaurant context. The present research successfully addressed how customers can reduce food waste by using the Norm Activation Model (NAM). A customer survey was employed to collect quantitative data to verify the hypotheses of this study. The NAM of this study invo
ABSTRACT Offering travel information sources to potential tourists can be expensive, although the importance of the amount and variety of travel information sources has been stressed in many studies. Therefore, it would be useful to examine how much exposure to travel information would lead to optimal results. Effects of exposure time to travel information on destination image were examined in this study. Two hypotheses were suggested to account for the relationships between exposure time to tra
The purpose of this research was to investigate the roles of historical nostalgia and novelty seeking influencing attitude to visit North Korea in the range of South Korean tourists. Based on previous studies, 8 hypotheses were derived and two theoretical research models were proposed. The originally proposed model and its rival were tested using the data collected from 200 South Koreans. The results showed that 1) historical nostalgia positively affects novelty seeking, 2) novelty seeking has a
This study examined the relationship between cognitive and affective images of horse racing and the influences of the two image dimensions on the intention to attend horse racing events. Data was collected through an online survey method using World Survey in South Korea. The questionnaire was e‐mailed to panel members of the World Survey who are involved in various online media. Canonical correlation and logistic regression were used to test hypotheses. The results showed that cognitive images
This study aims to examine the casino experiences of South Koreans within the framework of the four realms suggested by Pine and Gilmore's concept of the experience economy. Employing a qualitative research method, the current analysis focuses on how casinos are experienced and contextualized by contemporary South Koreans who imbue casinos with different meanings depending on how the individuals have experienced these places. The results reveal that the concept of the experience economy provides
Despite the growing investment in Hallyu tourism and the rising importance of cultural tourism, a theoretically integrated model of consumer engagement has not been developed. Thus, this study established a framework based on the uses and gratifications theory to understand social media engagement's effect on the purchase intention of the Hallyu tourism package. The uses and gratifications of this study included entertainment and information seeking of Hallyu content on YouTube. An online survey
As the COVID-19 pandemic extends over a long period of time, the World Food Programme (WFP) estimated that food insecurity would take place in the near future. Previous studies focused on various kinds of interventions for food waste prevention. Surprisingly, however, research tackling consumer attitudes and behaviors as a way to reduce food waste is still rare. To fill this gap in the literature, this study examined the antecedent roles of restaurant customers' nature connection and biospheric
