Professor Dongwoo Kim's research lab specializes in advanced oxide semiconductor devices and their applications in biomedical sensing and imaging. The lab focuses on developing oxide-based phototransistors and optical synaptic transistors with enhanced visible light sensitivity through defect engineering, such as oxygen vacancy creation and nanostructured oxide insertion. A key research direction involves leveraging these materials for non-invasive medical diagnostics, including PET/CT-based glioma and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) prognosis using radiotracer imaging. The lab also explores natural compounds, such as grape seed extract, for their therapeutic potential in metabolic disease models.

We discuss our findings from a study using Twitter lists to infer the characteristics and interests of users. Gathering and structuring user interest has been challenging because it often requires expensive and/or proprietary data such as users' clickthrough logs or desktop histories. The present study observed the effects of grape seed extract (GSE) and its ethylacetate (E) and ethylacetate/ethanol (EE) fractions on blood glucose levels in C57BL/KsJ-lepr(db)/lepr(db) (db/db) mice at 4-12 weeks of age. F-FDG uptake of IDH1-mutant gliomas was significantly lower than that of IDH1 wild-type gliomas. IDH1 mutation was the most important factor in identifying patients with the best prognosis, whereas increased F-FDG uptake provided additional prognostic information for predicting poor OS among patients with IDH1 wild-type gliomas.
