Professor Eunhyang Park's research lab specializes in translational cancer research, focusing on identifying and validating biomarkers for precision oncology in lung and ovarian cancers. The lab investigates cancer stem cell markers, tumor suppressor gene mutations (e.g., TP53), and signaling pathways (e.g., IGF1R, PARP) to improve prognostic prediction and therapeutic selection. A key emphasis is on integrating immunohistochemistry with next-generation sequencing to refine molecular diagnostics and guide targeted therapy in Asian populations, particularly Koreans.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are a small subset of tumor cells that exhibit stem cell-like properties and contribute in treatment failure. Umbilical discharge in infancy is a common pediatric problem and usually attributed to infection or an umbilical granuloma. However, it is important to investigate if such discharge is due to an underlying congenital abnormality such as umbilical hernia ulceration, urachal remnant, or omphalomesenteric duct remnant, because corrective surgical intervention may then be required. Omphalomesenteric duct remnant can cause umbilical discharge generally through patency between the gut and umbilicus. H
Lung ADC and SqCC showed distinct IGF1R expression profiles that demonstrated prognostic significance. High membranous IGF1R expression was predictive of poor PFS in EGFR-mutant lung ADC, while it was predictive of better PFS in SqCC. These findings will help improve study design for subsequent investigations and select patients for future anti-IGF1R therapy.
Even though the conventional and NGS methods were concordant in the majority of cases, NGS testing still revealed a considerable number of additional EGFR, ALK, and ROS1 alterations, as well as other targetable alterations, in Korean advanced-stage lung cancer patients. Given the high frequency of EGFR and other targetable mutations identified in the present study, NGS testing is highly recommended in the diagnosis of Korean lung cancer patients.
